  • Special Education Tutor - CBA

California Department of Education 4.4company rating

Special Education Teacher Job 7 miles from Lakewood

Send Cover Letter & Resume to: ************************ Requirements / Qualifications Comments and Other Information SPECIAL EDUCATION TUTOR Overview: We have a series of small charter schools (two are called The Education Corps while others are called College Bridge Academy), each with about 120 students located throughout the urban core of Los Angeles (e.g., Pico-Union, South LA, Compton, etc.). We serve an at-risk population group that typically were unsuccessful in their larger, traditional high schools, and generally come to us for a second chance. We partner with nonprofit organizations to provide the students with counselors and paid employment opportunities. We keep our class sizes to a minimum (e.g., 15 to 20 students per class) and each campus has a friendly, family-like feel. Despite the extra attention that all of our students receive, we still have a few students at each campus with IEPs who would benefit from closer one-on-one tutoring and attention. As such, we are creating a new position-Special Education Tutor. Each campus will have one Special Education Tutor who will work with approximately 1 to 3 students with IEPs per period in order to provide these students with tutoring and extra help. Each campus' Special Education Tutor will work in collaboration with the students' teachers in order to provide them with supplemental help in an effort to help them master the subject matter that is being covered in their regular classes. The Special Education Tutor and these students will meet in a separate, quiet room. This will be a part-time position that will operate Monday through Friday. As stated above, there will be 1 to 3 IEP students assigned to the tutor each period. Therefore, depending upon how many IEP students are at a given school site, this will determine how many periods of work the Special Education Tutor will be assigned during a given school semester. These numbers may vary between campuses but typically our small campuses have averaged between 5 to 15 IEP students each. Therefore, the Special Education Tutor positions at each campus may vary from 5- 6 hours per day. Duties: • Assist IEP students with remedial math and English skills • Assist students with homework or classwork from other subject areas • Assist with students' organizational skills (e.g,, filling out planners, study habits, having binders to keep their notes and homework within, straightening up messy backpacks, etc.) • Assist students with their transitional needs with regard to focusing on their post-secondary plans (would likely include web-based research on colleges and/or vocational training options, etc.) • Review IEP goals for each student and work collaboratively with both the special education director and the teachers to meet students' needs and chart progress • Assist special education director with data collection (such as meeting notices, transcripts, previous IEPs, attendance records, behavioral incident reports, etc.) Qualities: • Special education experience with high school-aged kids with moderate learning disabilities and some behavioral and attention issues • Previous IEP familiarity preferred • Heart for at-risk youth • Patience and good listening skills • Bilingual a plus (mostly for communication with students' parents, as needed) Pay: $23.00 - $47.22 per hour (hours will vary depending upon number of IEP students at assigned campus) To apply: Please email resume and cover letter to Tisha Middleton ************************ For more information about this position, go to the pdf file here ***************************************************************************** EL instructional assistant description-20211108065054.pdf
