Physical Requirements:
Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

Must be certain patient identification and requests are identical.
Validates all images and corrects incorrect information prior to sending to VISTA for interpretation by the Radiologist. If deletion for VISTA is required, the proper documentation must be presented for deletion of images from the medical record through the PACS Administrator and/or ADPAC Coordinator.
Help to maintain effective control for the Radiology Department by coordinating, organizing and executing the work potential to expedite workflow patterns with the department.
Continuously works to develop a cohesive and effective team with other areas of the Radiology Department and with other areas of the entire facility to expedite quality patient care.
Ensures that adequate quantities of supplies for general Radiology are available to meet workload demands.
Assures that procedure rooms are always stocked with necessary supplies, with special attention to emergent equipment and supplies.
Must recognize and report major equipment malfunctions within a timely manner
Ensures that all equipment is in proper working order prior to use.
Removes and tags defective equipment and notifies DRT Supervisor or Chief Technologist.
Responsible for making routine calibration on equipment.

Successfully completes all required educational classes and successfully receives all Continuing Education Units (CEUs) as governed by the ARRT, to maintain and active status with the ARRT.

Work with Medical Support Staff to schedule and prepare patients for examinations and explain procedures to patients while performing studies.
Obtain pertinent diagnostic examinations for the ordering provider.
Correlates the clinical history with the test to be performed.
Maintains records and files of exams performed on patients. Includes the maintenance of patient registration and editing of patient exams in the computerized information system.
Properly identifies patient images. Essential so that mistaken identity of patient images does not occur. The Technologist must be certain the patient ID band and the request are identical.
Confirms patient identity by verbally confirming patient name and social security number.
Responsible for explaining exams to competent patients so that patients understand what is to be done as well as what hazards, if any, are possible.
Requirements:
Education: Graduate from an approved School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
Certification: ARMDS Certification, Basic Life Support (BLS).

Summary/Objection
Performs ultrasound procedures to adult and pediatric patients for the purpose of diagnosis and/or treatment of anatomic and physiologic disorders. Assists Radiologist during specialized exams to obtain images at a satisfactory level with minimal supervision.
Essential Functions
1. Interfaces with patient to ascertain medical history and provides instructions and explanation of the procedure and/or exam to obtain the best possible image.

Qualifications:

Current license in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Responsibilities
Ensures the appropriate exam is performed based on physician's orders and patient history.
Verifies and enters/selects patient demographics.

Performs ultrasound examinations, tailoring exams based upon findings and most likely diagnosis.
Updates patient logs and submit billing.
Ensures operation of equipment and coordinates necessary maintenance.
Assists with training of student sonographers, residents, and fellows.

Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Current certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with an Abdomen specialty (AB) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
Current certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with an OB/GYN specialty (OB/GYN) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
Current ARRT Registration for Sonography (S).
* Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.

General Description:
Performs a variety of technical tasks involved in operating ultrasound equipment and positioning patients in order to attain diagnostic quality images. Works effectively with patients and patients' families and maintains a cooperative relationship with interdepartmental personnel.
Requirements
* Performs a variety of tasks involved in operating ultrasound equipment to attain diagnostic quality images. Adjusting equipment for proper imaging and positioning techniques.
* Performs a variety of Ultrasound exams as requested by qualified healthcare providers.
* Explains ultrasound procedures to patients and answers any questions patients may have prior to the exam that are within their scope of practice. Questions not in the Ultrasound technologist's scope of practice will be referred to the radiologist or the patient's ordering provider.
* Monitors accessory equipment: workstation, printer, probes, Trophon, etc.
* Maintains an appropriate equipment QA program under the direction of an approved medical physicist.
* Accurately processes images for optimal quality.
* Demonstrates acceptable image quality standards by critiquing positioning and technical factors.
* Understands use of the Athena/PACS/RIS/Nuance PowerShare systems.
* Is competent in using the Trophon and accurately logs the disinfection of the Ultrasound tranvaginal probes in the appropriate log.
Qualifications:
* Associates Degree required from an accredited community college or college/university in the Applied Science of Radiography.
* Current RDMS license from ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) or equivalent is preferred, or must be RDMS registry eligible.
* Current license in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
* Current State of Utah DOPL Radiologic Technologist license.
* Current American Heart Association BLS card (CPR and AED) and current PPD screening.
* Two years of experience is preferred but not required.
All Ultrasound technologists are required to maintain their qualifications by meeting the specific requirements on continuing education as well as maintaining all their licenses current.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
Perform general ultrasound exams on patients.
Ensure patients are properly prepared for procedures.
Ensure all finished ultrasound exams are of high diagnostic quality and all administrative work for each exam is in order.
Recognize and document abnormalities and anomalies.
Effectively and compassionately communicate with patients and physicians.
Reviews patient's medical history and physician's instructions. Prepares equipment for procedure. Selects appropriate equipment settings. Explains procedure to patient and records any medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed. Directs the patient to move into positions that will provide the best view.
Spreads gel on the skin to aid the transmission of sound waves.
Operates special equipment to direct nonionizing, high-frequency sound waves into areas of the patient's body. The equipment collects reflected echoes and forms an image that may be videotaped, transmitted, or photographed for interpretation and diagnosis by a physician.
Views the screen during the scan, looking for visual cues that contrast healthy areas with unhealthy ones. Selects images to show to the physician for diagnostic purposes. Takes measurements, calculates values, and analyzes the results in preliminary reports for the physicians.
Keeps patient records and adjusts/maintains equipment.
Complies with safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies/procedures.
