About the Role
The Senior Bioinformatics QA Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the quality, accuracy, and performance of bioinformatics pipelines used in genomic data analysis. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in bioinformatics, software testing, and quality assurance methodologies. This role involves supporting the testing of in-house developed bioinformatics pipelines operating on local high-performance computing (HPC) environments. The engineer will also be responsible for creating and reviewing documentation related to bioinformatics pipeline validation and other testing results, ensuring compliance with internal quality management requirements and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Additionally, the QA engineer will work closely with bioinformatics development and operations teams to identify and resolve potential issues within internal bioinformatics software.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the testing and validation of in-house bioinformatics pipelines on HPC and other computational environments.
Develop, execute, and maintain comprehensive test plans and test cases for bioinformatics pipelines, including unit, integration, and system-level testing.
Conduct functional, performance, and scalability testing on bioinformatics workflows and software.
Collaborate closely with bioinformatics developers to understand pipeline requirements and ensure appropriate testing strategies.
Validate data outputs for consistency, accuracy, and biological relevance across diverse datasets.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA, CAP, HIPAA) in bioinformatics workflows.
Analyze and document test results, identify issues, and work with development teams to resolve defects.
Implement version control best practices, manage testing environments, and ensure reproducibility of results.
Support the release process by ensuring that updates to bioinformatics software and pipelines meet quality standards.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Experience with bioinformatics pipelines, data analysis, and scientific computing environments.
Proficiency in programming and scripting languages such as Python, R, or Bash.
Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, including automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.
Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and frameworks (e.g., Nextflow, Snakemake, Galaxy).
Experience with version control systems such as Git and Azure DevOps.
Knowledge of biological data formats (e.g., FASTQ, BAM, VCF) and sequencing technologies.
Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
Experience with statistical analysis or machine learning in a biological context.

Description:
The Software Engineer plans, designs, develops, and tests embedded software for aerospace motor control applications. The role involves acting as a technical expert in software development, coding, testing, and debugging, following DO-178C / ED-12C standards in conjunction with system-level certification (ARP4754 / ED-79, 14 CFR 25.1309 / AC 25.1309-1). The position works with technical staff to address software issues, resolve customer complaints, and implement software modifications. The Software Engineer will also participate in developing software user manuals.
Responsibilities:
Create Plan for Software Aspects of Certification (PSAC) and Software Development Plan (SDP) for each software project.
Lead oversight of software verification progress conducted by offshore teams.
Support the lead Software Engineer by integrating and testing new software deliveries and authoring document deliverables.
Create and manage software requirements.
Generate design documentation, including block diagrams, state diagrams, and timing analysis.
Develop software test environments and test plans.
Apply DO-178C or ED-12C knowledge to system-level certification (ARP4754 / ED-79, 14 CFR 25.1309 / AC 25.1309-1).
Design and work with serial communication systems (RS-485, CANbus, ARINC 429, I2C, etc.).
Generate high-quality specifications, reports, and publications, support proposals.
Implement software on target devices and test the software in a lab environment.
Follow the software design process, including requirements generation, design, peer reviews, test plan generation, integration, and testing.
Participate in customer discussions, brief technical capabilities, conduct trade studies, and address schedule and cost impacts.
Review vendor experience and capabilities to support software development.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in software engineering.
Proficiency in C code to support reviews and troubleshooting of software.
Essential experience with DO-178C, DAL A or B.
3+ years of experience developing against DO-178C, DAL A or B guidelines.
2+ years of experience using DOORS and requirements-based software design for high-reliability or safety-critical software (DAL B or A).
Experience in electrical hardware design and debugging.
Ability to handle high-visibility, urgent deadlines.
Software or firmware development experience for embedded controllers.
Strong oral and written communication skills, with proficiency in MS Office.
Excellent analysis, decision-making, coaching, and mentoring abilities.
Customer-focused with strong interface and negotiation skills.
Project management experience and familiarity with root cause and corrective action methodologies.
