Undeterred, he established Skechers in Manhattan Beach, California, and began distributing R. Griggs Ltd. and other brands in 1992.
Skechers is a relatively young company with its beginnings in 1992.
In 1993 Greenburg decided to concentrate on his own brand and no longer distributed Cross Colours and Karl Kani, unfortunately within a short period of time both these companies were discontinued and sold.
By 1993, only one year after the two companies had formed a partnership, Skechers no longer served as a distributor for the Doctor Martens brand and had to rely on its own label for survival.
In 1993, it was decided that refining its own label (Skechers shoes) would be more profitable.
By 1995 the two-year-old Skechers was a vibrant, growing company, reflecting the many years of retail expertise of the company's CEO Robert Greenberg as well as that of the company's president, Greenberg's son Michael.
Two years later, in 1997, Skechers was doing well enough to expand its customer base to overseas markets.
With 1998 sales at almost $400 million, the company designs and markets more than 900 different styles of shoes, which are sold in major department stores such as Macy's and Nordstrom as well as in 38 of the company's own freestanding boutiques.
1998:Skechers enters the field of athletic footwear, taking over Nike's space at the Atlanta trade show.
Since 1999 Skechers has increased retail stores and in-store boutiques, expanded women's shoes, and diversified into children's shoes.

Although the stock was slow to warm up for investors through the first year, by 2000 the stock began to rise steadily and maintain its growth through the next decade and beyond.
