Compensation
The Honolulu Museum of Art is committed to practicing salary transparency. The minimum salary for this position is $15.45 per hour, and this is a tipped position. Suggestive selling works-up-sell! Your guests are here to buy, not browse. A salesperson will always make more tips than an “order-taker”. In order to be an effective sales person, you must know all of the food and beverage products available. It never looks good when a guest asks you about a specific item, and you don't know the first thing about it. Questions like “how is it cooked”, “is it mild or spicy”, or portion size are common-know the answers. If you don't know, find someone who does, and relay the information to your guest.
Up-sell alcohol. Ask the guest if they would prefer a particular brand-of rum for example, in their Mai Tai or Trouble in Waikiki.
Drinks from the bar will always be carried on a tray, even one bottle of beer.
When serving or clearing drinks, handle all glasses well below the rim, or by the stem.
Always place the drink on a beverage napkin or coaster.
Card guests who appear to be under 30-no I.D.-no service.
If a customer has a complaint, bring it to the attention of the Manager-on-Duty. If the complaint is regarding a meal, remove the plate and offer to replace it, or let the guest choose something else. Always strive to assure that the customer leaves satisfied.
Do not hesitate to assist and/or perform the duties of the busser.
Never walk through the dining room with empty hands.
If a problem with an order arises, be sure to inform your customer of any delays immediately which might occur.

Check out with the Lead Banquet Server, obtaining their initials on the checkout paperwork before you turn it in to a manager.
Knows all menu items offered at the event.. If asked, accurately answer menu items in regard to the preparation method, ingredients, portion size, and side items accompanying the dish.
Conducts a first greet guests upon arrival. Takes orders if time permits, or informs guests that he or she will return within 3 minutes to assist them.
Takes beverage and food orders accurately for all tables. Has less than 2% return of items due to order mistakes.
Keep beverage glasses filled; remove each round of plates and replenish utensils
Legibly completes guest checks and accurately enters orders into the POS system following company procedures with 100% accuracy.
Picks up orders and completes plate/drink preparation correctly as specified by company expo procedures.
Performs check-back procedures with tables within 2 minutes of guests receiving their food and drinks.
Totals and presents guest checks and carries out payment procedures with 100% accuracy.
Performs side-work duties correctly as specified.
Follows all end-of-shift checkout procedures with 100% accuracy.
Follows the alcohol serving procedures in regard to beverage service standards, awareness standards, and government regulations with 100% accuracy
Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must be able to read and communicate in English clearly and effectively.
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds repeatedly, throughout the shift.
Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for the duration of a scheduled shift.
Must have the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Must have the ability to lift, stoop, and bend.
Must be reliable and punctual.
