Utilize standard procedures to effectively process infrastructure alarms and alerts while maintaining regulatory requirements. Prepare required documentation for a given event and follow-up per the applicable regulatory requirement or standards. Use monitoring tools to effectively manage the alarms and alerts. Maintain basic understanding of network infrastructure, computer operating systems, security information and event monitoring system and other cybersecurity technologies to ensure adequate defense in depth design across the IT enterprise. Maintain basic understanding of physical infrastructure and access control systems used by the company as well as software and other technologies used for physical security. Respond to inquiries and provide basic problem resolution based on established policies and procedures or past experiences. Assists in response to actual events as required. Observes conduct and behavior of inmates to prevent disturbances and escapes; searches inmates and cells for contraband articles; patrols assigned areas for evidence of forbidden activities, infractions of rules and unsatisfactory attitudes or adjustment of prisoners, and reports observations to supervisor; performs inmate supervision during recreation and meal periods. Inspects locks, grills, doors and gates for tampering; employs various forms of discipline as needed to maintain order among prisoners, if necessary. Supervises prisoners in transit between jail, courtroom, prisons, or other points, traveling by automobile or public transportation as required; locks prisoner(s) in cell after searching for weapons, valuables or drugs. Secures all valuables and/or belongings and follows standard procedures designated for the disposing or maintaining of the same; orders and serves meals to prisoners and provides or obtains medical aid if needed; administers medication as prescribed by doctor.     The purpose of Utah's Hogle Safety/EMS Department is to provide a professional level of service in all areas of security, safety, and emergency first-aid to all guests, staff, volunteers, and vendors. Officers will maintain a visible presence on grounds to act as rule enforcement, safety guides, walking “signposts” to help guide and answer guest questions, and first-aid. Officers may be called to assist in a variety of zoo incidents, emergencies, or needs. Utah's Hogle Zoo Safety/EMS Department operates as organizational security, and first-aid. Applicants with security and/or EMT certifications will be looked at more favorably. All Safety/EMS Officers MUST have current BLS and Stop-The-Bleed certifications, and be willing and able to render first aid, respond to security-related calls, communicate with guests and staff, and be standing or walking most of the day. This position is a non-benefited variable-hour position with a variety of five-hour-long shifts available via a bidding system each month. Available shifts will increase during spring-fall seasons, and decrease slightly in the winter.
