PAY RATE INFORMATION:
The Corrections Officer position is a union position and starting pay is $52,844.48/yr. This position is eligible for step pay increases per BA, within the Bargaining Agreement. Top end of the current wage scale for this position is $70,261.57/yr.
DUTIES:
* Obtaining and recording required information from inmate at the time of admission to the facility.
* Searching inmate and property for weapons and contraband.
* Book and fingerprint prisoners and prepare records of clothing, money and other items on the prisoner at the time of detention.
* Safeguard inmate's personal belongings and return to them upon release.
* Screen inmates for unusual medical or psychological conditions and report same to supervisors and medical personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS- Applicants for the position of Corrections Officer must:

Public Safety Officer STATUS: Limited Part-time, Non-exempt DEPARTMENT: Public Safety REPORTS TO: Public Safety Supervisor This position is charged with providing a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors. This position works to educate the campus community regarding safety and security, minimize risk for the University and enforce all University policies and procedures. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University's mission, vision, and values which include diversity, equity and inclusion.
This position is Limited Part Time, You could be called to cover shifts on any shift 1-3rd, with a maximum 28 hours per week possible. Hourly public safety officers will receive a shift differential of an additional .50/hour for all hours worked between 11:00 pm and 6:00 am Monday through Friday; and for all hours worked on Saturday or Sunday (12:00 am to 11:59 pm)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provide proactive campus patrols in accordance with the department's community policing model.
* Enforce university rules and regulations on campus, which includes conducting investigations and completing/filing necessary documentation.
* Take immediate action to protect the life safety of community members, including other Public Safety Department personnel.
* Deliver medical treatment including basic first aid, CPR, and use of an AED unit, in accordance with training and certification.
* Perform safety escorts for students and employees to their cars and/or from building to building. Provide security for dignitaries and other visitors to the University.
* Investigate and file reports of security and safety concerns involving building structures, yards and parking lots on campus.
* Identify and take steps to address safety hazards and liability concerns.
* Complete thorough incident reports on violations of laws or university policy, safety hazards or liability concerns, medical emergencies, and employee injuries.
* Maintain physical security systems including but not limited to: Electronic Access Control, CCTV, and
* Keys.
* Regulate and monitor traffic and parking conditions, taking enforcement action in concert with university policy.
* Maintain an inventory of found property in accordance with department policy.
* Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC and national affiliations associated within athletics or other role specific regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* High School Diploma (or equivalent) required, Associates degree preferred.
* No conviction for any felony offense, or misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.
* No conviction within the previous 3 years for possession/use of illegal drugs, criminal alcohol offenses, or any criminal driving offense.
* Valid driver's license required in state assigned (Michigan).
* Must maintain an acceptable driving record as required by the university insurer.
* Must have, or be eligible to obtain, a Michigan Concealed Pistol License.
* Must be able to maintain certification in First Aid/CPR/AED, defensive tactics - including the use of OC Spray and handcuffs.
* Must maintain a level of physical fitness suitable for the effective performance of all job related functions, including but not limited to: running, walking long distances, standing for long periods of time, sporadic lifting of heavy objects, and physical exertion under stressful circumstances.
* Ability to pass a pre-employment background investigation including but not limited to: criminal background check, employment and personal reference checks, pre-employment physical, drug/alcohol screening, psychological evaluation.
* 20/20 vision - with or without correction, and normal peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to distinguish colors.

* Strong report-writing skills.

* Foundational knowledge of legal and compliance requirements affecting the department, especially: Title IX, The Cleary Act, and FERPA.

PAY RATE INFORMATION:
The Corrections Officer position is a union position and starting pay is $52,844.48/yr. This position is eligible for step pay increases per BA, within the Bargaining Agreement. Top end of the current wage scale for this position is $70,261.57/yr.
DUTIES:
Obtaining and recording required information from inmate at the time of admission to the facility.
Searching inmate and property for weapons and contraband.
Book and fingerprint prisoners and prepare records of clothing, money and other items on the prisoner at the time of detention.
Safeguard inmate's personal belongings and return to them upon release.
Screen inmates for unusual medical or psychological conditions and report same to supervisors and medical personnel.
