Duties During the course of their careers, Uniformed Division Officers carry out assignments in protection. Duties include: Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, and foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area. Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions. Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A. Our Uniformed Division's mission is to protect facilities and venues secured for U.S. Secret Service protectees. Throughout its history, the Uniformed Division has accomplished this mission through individuals who embody honor, integrity and a commitment to excellence. Today, the Uniformed Division has grown both in size and scope of responsibility and is mandated by law to provide physical security for the White House Complex and the vice president's residence at the Naval Observatory. It also provides security for the Treasury Department building and foreign diplomatic missions in Washington, D.C. The Uniformed Division also has specialized teams including Counter Sniper, Emergency Response, K-9, and more. Requirements U.S. citizenship is required. Possess a current valid U.S. driver's license. Be at least age 20 and less than age 37 at the time you receive a conditional offer of employment, unless you have previous service in a Federal Civilian Law Enforcement position covered by special law enforcement or firefighter retirement provisions, including early or mandatory retirement. Applicants with veteran's preference must receive a conditional offer of employment prior to reaching age 40 to continue in the application process. Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory. Possess uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular. Possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye. QUALIFICATIONS: * High School Diploma (or equivalent) required, Associates degree preferred. * No conviction for any felony offense, or misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. * No conviction within the previous 3 years for possession/use of illegal drugs, criminal alcohol offenses, or any criminal driving offense. * Valid driver's license required in state assigned (Michigan). * Must maintain an acceptable driving record as required by the university insurer. * Must have, or be eligible to obtain, a Michigan Concealed Pistol License. * Must be able to maintain certification in First Aid/CPR/AED, defensive tactics - including the use of OC Spray and handcuffs. * Must maintain a level of physical fitness suitable for the effective performance of all job related functions, including but not limited to: running, walking long distances, standing for long periods of time, sporadic lifting of heavy objects, and physical exertion under stressful circumstances. * Ability to pass a pre-employment background investigation including but not limited to: criminal background check, employment and personal reference checks, pre-employment physical, drug/alcohol screening, psychological evaluation. * 20/20 vision - with or without correction, and normal peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to distinguish colors. * Ability to professionally respond to and investigate criminal incidents, medical emergencies, and policy violations and to effectively present findings through formal reports. * Strong report-writing skills. * Proficiency with computers, email systems, google drive, and ability to master other technology resources used by the department. * Foundational knowledge of legal and compliance requirements affecting the department, especially: Title IX, The Cleary Act, and FERPA. * Service oriented. Ability to have an exceptional customer service attitude at all times. * Ability to work independently, without direct supervision. * Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation and positive reactions to change and conflict resolution. * Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both written and oral which transcend diverse audiences. * Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the university. * Must be able to work an irregular schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and additional hours during peak times or as required. * Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the shift. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders and capable of repetitive stretching, twisting, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs.) on a daily basis. * Ability to work in extreme temperatures and weather conditions.
