    Responsible for reviewing medical records to facilitate and obtain appropriate physician documentation for any clinical conditions or procedures to support the appropriate severity of illness, expected risk of mortality, and complexity of care of the patient, by improving the quality of the physicians' clinical documentation. Exhibits a sufficient knowledge of clinical documentation requirements, MS-DRG Assignment, and clinical conditions or procedures, educates members of the patient care team regarding documentation guidelines, including attending physicians, allied health practitioners, nursing, and case management. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Include the following. Others may be assigned. Record Review: Completes initial medical records reviews of patient records within 24-48 hours of admission for a specified patient population to: (a) evaluate documentation to assign the principal diagnosis, pertinent secondary diagnoses, and procedures for accurate MS-DRG assignment, risk of mortality and severity of illness; and (b) initiate a review worksheet. Conducts follow-up reviews of patients every 2-3 days to support and assign a working or final MS-DRG assignment upon patient discharge, as necessary. Formulate physician queries regarding missing, unclear or conflicting health record documentation by requesting and obtaining additional documentation within the health record, as necessary. Collaborates with case managers, nursing staff and other ancillary staff regarding interaction with physicians regarding documentation and to resolve physician queries prior to discharge. Assist in training department staff new to CDI. Professional Development: Stays current with AHA Official Coding and Reporting Guidelines, CMS and other agency directives for ICD-9-CM and CPT coding. Attends mandatory coding seminars on annual basis (IPPS and OPPS, ICD-9-CM and CPT updates) for inpatient and outpatient coding. Quarterly review of AHA Coding Clinic. Attends Quarterly Coding Updates and all coding conference calls as well as any required CDI education. CDI: Communicates/Completes Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) activities and coding issues (lacking documentation, physician queries, etc.) for appropriate follow-up and resolution. This role is responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of highly complex asbestos, environmental and other types of toxic tort claims, as well as sexual abuse cases. This is an individual contributor role for a candidate recognized as a technical and legal expert in the interpretation of complex or unusual policy coverages in area of general liability insurance coverage as it relates to asbestos, environmental, other types of toxic tort claims, and sexual abuse claims. This candidate will work within assigned limits of broad authority on assignments requiring a high degree of technical and legal complexity and coordination. This position reports to the SVP of Legacy and Reinsurance Claims, located in Chicago. The primary duties and responsibilities of the role are: Works on highly complex investigations of claims, analyzes coverage, liability, compensability and damages. Determines if a major claim should be settled or litigated. Manages all types of investigative activity on major claims. Coordinates discovery and litigation strategy with staff counsel or panel attorneys. Negotiates highly complex settlement packages, sets reserves and authorizes payment within scope of authority, settling claims in most cost effective manner and ensuring timely issuance of disbursements. Coordinates third party recovery with subrogation/salvage unit. Makes recommendations on claim management policies and processes to management. Analyzes claims activities; prepares and presents reports to management. Works with attorneys, co-carriers, brokers and insureds regarding the handling and/or disposition of highly complex claims. Keeps current on state/territory regulations, case law and issues, as well as industry activity and trends. May participate in industry trade groups. May provide guidance and assistance to less experienced claims staff and other functional areas, including ceded reinsurance. May be responsible for special claims projects and presentations Core qualifications and requirements for this position include: Must have good business acumen (i.e. understand how an insurance company works and makes money, including how this role impacts both Argo Group and our customers' ability to be profitable). Coordinate timely and ongoing communication and feedback to faculty and parents as necessary. Provide support for faculty in discussing and implementing differentiated learning strategies. Assist with the teaching study skills section of Freshman Seminar. Serve as advisor for a group of 6-9 students, providing guidance in academic, extracurricular, social, and personal areas and serve as the school's key liaison to parents. Dormitory duty, one day per week. Weekend duty, approximately seven weekends per year. Attend all faculty meetings, department meetings, and other meetings as required. Attend all school functions: chapels, assemblies, class meetings, as well as special events. Complete academic reports, advisor letters, and other forms of academic communication in a timely, professional manner.
