This position requires an individual with extensive experience in leading NRDA projects. The successful professional will have a strong academic background and at least 10 years of scientific experience in a discipline and has been focused on the NRDA process for either hazardous waste releases or oil spills. A Master of Science degree in a pertinent natural science is required, but education to the Ph.D. level in a natural science is preferred. POSITION SUMMARY Advanced Thin Films (ATF) designs and manufacturers optics, including fabrication of substrates and the deposition of thin films, to create custom optical coatings for cutting-edge laser systems. This position is responsible for accelerating ATF's capabilities to make optics including developing spectrally complex coating designs to meet the needs of the high energy laser market, developing processes and tools to increase manufacturing efficiency and quality, and understanding the interplay between fabrication and coating to yield optimal optics. To optimize coating capabilities, ATF plans to develop several models for coating-related processes. This position will be instrumental in the development of these models and will require working closely with other engineers to optimize coatings for manufacturability, high laser damage thresholds, and low stress coatings. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Designing and depositing optical coatings that meet specifications and are optimized for manufacturability and technical performance. Working with the ATF team to optimize optical coating designs and processes for the high laser damage thresholds. Metrology of optical components and designs. Modeling of optical properties and how these properties change based on processing parameters. Working with a team of engineers and scientists to meet project deadlines.
