ABOUT THIS ROLE
The preferred candidate will have small group experience as well as a dynamic outgoing personality that engages people. The Pastor of Discipleship and Care reports to the Senior Pastor and is responsible for day-to-day operations and oversight for adult discipleship and pastoral care at Vertical Church. This person will provide leadership and support for the discipleship vision and core values at Vertical Church as they build a strong small group and mutual ministry culture.
They will coordinate with the ministry staff and small group leaders regarding various discipleship needs and opportunities within our church family. High emphasis will be put on promoting in-depth discipleship and a biblical soul care ministry within the context of community life. Finally, this role will include oversight of several volunteer ministries related to weekend worship services.
We are looking for a person who is a natural connector with a high relational IQ-willing to be used by the Holy Spirit to shepherd members and attendees of Vertical Church in taking the next step in following Jesus Christ. This person should be energized by working with people (extroverted)--while having competency in building ministry infrastructure that enables other leaders in the church to minister more effectively as well.
ESSENTIAL ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with the Senior Pastor to execute the Discipleship Vision and Core Values, as you model it in personal participation
Primary responsibility given for oversight, supervision, training, development, and coaching of the small group ministry team
Empower and enable a culture of biblical mutual ministry within our small groups (called Grace Groups in our church)
Oversee and engage in various Pastoral Care needs of members and attendees
Oversee the coordinators of Freedom Groups and teach as needed
Provide goals and strategies for Biblical Soul Care (BSC) team growth; Maintain regular meetings with BSC staff and volunteers. Serve as the ambassador for BSC and must be able to cultivate leaders
May be asked to engage and inform the elder board based situational needs
Oversee various volunteer teams and encourage the team leaders
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires five years of experience or more in developing a healthy church-wide small group ministry in conjunction with providing pastoral care, discipleship, and counseling.
We are looking for a proven leader and multiplier who can inspire and share their passion for helping people. This includes training leaders within our small group ministry on how to build a culture of intentional mutual ministry and disciple-making in their groups-balanced with other forms of personal discipleship and formal pastoral counseling.
OTHER SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Personal, growing relationship with Jesus; a strong capacity with the Word of God and committed to prayer.
Must meet the spiritual and character qualifications of a deacon or elder as found in 1 Timothy 3:1-13 and Titus 1:6-9 and to exhibit the fruit of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5:22-23.
Must be a member of Vertical Church or become a member upon employment

Struthers Parkside Church has existed as the living body of Christ since A.D. 1805. Summary:
The lead pastor will model the role of Struthers Parkside Church towards our mission. The lead pastor will be an articulate advocate and communicator for the vision of God's Church, for the Glory of God. This person will be the primary leader, teacher, and visionary and will have a broad responsibility for the spiritual welfare, growth and life of the Church in all areas including discipleship, evangelism, and equipping the congregation for service. The lead pastor is to embody the essence of a shepherd and servant leader.
Qualifications:
1. Exhibit a sincere and mature relationship with Jesus Christ, as evidenced by a deeply committed life of prayer, biblical study, meditation, empowering of the Holy Spirit and dependency on God.
2. Demonstrate the biblical/theological training to preach the gospel of the kingdom of God to the congregation, to better understand God's Word so that they can better serve Him.
3. Possess the spiritual gifts of pastoring/shepherding to create disciples and allow them to experience the presence of God and receive power from Him.
4. At least two years relevant pastoral ministry experience required and hold a bachelor's degree in an applicable field. Previous experience is preferred.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Administration:
1) To serve as Moderator of the Board.
2) To supervise the work of the secretary and the Church office.
3) To provide guidance and leadership for the various committees of the Board, as Chairs of Committees request his time and assistance.
4) To oversee the programs of the Church and evaluate their effectiveness.
Communication:
1) To work with Church staff, church officers, Board, and other Church leaders to provide unified, harmonious programs for the Church, and assist in congregational communications through publications (bulletins, newsletters, correspondence, minutes of meetings), emails, texts and through direct contact.
2) To be available as a resource person for various organizations in the Church.
Leadership:
1) To provide for worship and pastoral leadership to enable the congregation to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ.
2) To conduct worship services every Sunday at a time set by the Board. To conduct other Services as dictated by the Board.
3) To work with the Board and/or the appropriate committee to systematically break down opportunities or problems into components by identifying relevant issues, fact finding, and recognizing connections. To formulate possible options, evaluate them and recommend the “best” one for implementation.
Pastoral Care:
1) To perform the Sacraments of Holy Communion and Baptism.
2) To officiate at Infant Dedications, Weddings, and Funerals.
3) To be available in the Church office for at least 15 hours/week minimum at his discretion to meet with members of the Congregation and public. This would be considered weekly “office hours”. It is understood that events or situations may dictate otherwise.
4) To provide hospital visitations to members of the Congregation as needed.
5) To provide pastoral counseling as required and be on call for emergencies as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The CSM position leads ministry in a college campus environment. A designated office space may or may not be available. The CSM is required to travel to on-campus and off- campus sites as appropriate. Off-campus travel includes, but is not limited to: student ministry conferences, Ministry Partnership Development meetings, and InterVarsity- sponsored training sessions, meetings, and conferences. The CSM is regularly required to communicate with others, and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc.

Pay Range: $33,900.00 - $45,204.00 per year
Pay: This position is funded through personal fundraising. Accordingly, compensation will vary based on the ability of the individual to secure a donor team to fund the cost of his/her salary.
