MTR Carbon Capture is a new division of MTR which was created to manage and to offer our membrane-based carbon capture process. We are seeking a highly motivated senior mechanical engineer to work with our team of talented engineers and researchers. This person will have a wide range of responsibilities including but not limited to supporting carbon capture projects, selection of plant equipment, new equipment design, and field commissioning.
Responsibilities
· Generate, critically review and/or comment on technical documents such as P&ID, process flow diagrams, equipment data sheets, general arrangement drawings, and 3D models
· Specify, review and comment on process equipment sizing, selection and arrangement such as gas blowers/turbofans, compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, dryers, cooling equipment, and pressure vessels
· Work with equipment vendors to evaluate and size process equipment. Compare technologies to identify the best equipment for the application and communicate recommendations and findings to the project team
· Participate in project meetings with internal and external stakeholders
· Provide technical support and guidance to carbon capture projects and engineering studies (internally) and with project EPC firms and the customer (externally)
· Participate in a lead role as needed in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP), or other risk assessments
· Assist in developing commissioning and start-up procedures for carbon capture plants
· Assist with Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) on fabricated equipment or skidded systems
· Use engineering skills and best practices to create membrane carbon capture system designs that meet the client's requirements
· Use analytical skills to derive potential solutions to engineering problems and engineering judgment to recommend the most suitable option
· Collaborate with other business functions, including QHSE, procurement, manufacturing, and quality
Qualifications
· 8-12 years of industrial project or plant engineering technical experience
· Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering
· Strong, clear and concise communication skills (verbal and written)
· Organized and timely on all aspects of the job
· Ability to work effectively independently or in a team setting
· Ability to work remotely effectively
· Experience in risk identification and management
· Strong familiarity with common process design practices and related engineering elements (process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, instruments and controls, general arrangement of equipment, etc.)

· Mastery of mechanical engineering fundamentals

Salary
Salary ranges for MTR positions are dependent on the level of education and number of years of relevant experience the candidate has, and what other MTR employees in similar positions with a similar skill set are earning. We estimate the range for this position to be between $139,500 and $191,300 per year.

ENGINEERING FUNCTIONS:

Sr. Thermal Engineer - Location: San Jose, CA (Hybrid in-office and remote from SF Bay Area)
Responsibilities
Perform thermal simulation and characterization of electronic assemblies, including MCMs, interposers, substrates, PCBs, cold plates and other system level components.
Investigate and develop innovative thermal cooling solutions with an emphasis on liquid cooling.
Validate cooling solutions using both simulation tools such as Ansys IcePak and thermal measurement of prototypes.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize design parameters to achieve performance objectives.
Create and present analytical and experimental findings in clear cohesive manner.
Participate in technical conferences and publish papers on thermal analysis and solutions.
Develop and execute test plans to ensure mechanical and manufacturing adaptability of thermal cooling solutions.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Thermal, or related fields.
3+ years of experience in designing, simulating, and testing thermal solutions for electronic systems
Extensive expertise in advanced air-cooling technologies, including vapor chambers, heat sinks and thermal interface materials.
Familiar with liquid cooling techniques in general and able to set up CFD simulations.
Proficiency in using simulation tools such as IcePak and CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks).
Strong communication skills, with an ability to manage multiple projects. Adapt to changing demands, and present findings to diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's or PhD in Mechanical, Thermal, or a related field.
5+ years of experience, particularly in microelectronics thermal cooling and advanced packaging technologies (e.g., 2.5D/3D packaging).
Experience with JEDEC thermal testing standards.
Knowledge of interconnect materials and processes, such as solder bumping, copper pillars, and epoxies for electronic assemblies.
Familiarity with industry-leading practices in advanced cooling solutions for high-density, high-performance modules.
This role offers a base salary of $119K - $165K depending on experience.

Responsibilities/Duties:
Create 3D models, prototypes, iterations, and proof of concepts, within rapid design cycles.
Provide engineering input to develop NPI project plan and execute assigned tasks.
Understand industry landscape and product trends to concept and develop novel solutions.
Ability to test designs and apply the scientific method of problem solving in NPD.
Conduct initial tests of prototypes and qualification tests on new product designs.
Evaluate samples supplied by manufacturing for approval.
Maintain/monitor laboratory equipment and calibration.
