As a Principal Staff Software Engineer on the AI Training Infra team, you will play a crucial role in leading and building the next-gen training infrastructure to power AI use cases. You will design and implement high performance AI Training pipeline, data I/O, work with open source teams to identify and resolve issues in popular libraries like Huggingface, Horovod and PyTorch, debug and optimize deep learning training, and provide advanced support for internal AI teams in areas like model parallelism, data parallelism, Zero, automatic mixed precision and kernel fusion. Finally, you will assist in and guide the development of containerized pipeline orchestration infrastructure, including developing and distributing stable base container images, providing advanced profiling and observability, and updating internally maintained versions of deep learning frameworks and their companion libraries like Tensorflow, PyTorch, DeepSpeed, GNNs, Flash Attention and more.
Responsibilities
- Owning the technical strategy for broad or complex requirements with insightful and forward-looking approaches that go beyond the direct team and solve large open-ended problems.
- Designing, implementing, and optimizing the performance of large-scale distributed training for personalized recommendation as well as large language models.
- Improving the observability and understandability of various systems with a focus on improving developer productivity and system sustenance.

Basic Qualifications:

Position Summary: Our current immediate need is for a senior level engineer with Modelica modeling and experimental testing experience. Responsibilities include developing and advising representative models for various HVAC and other thermal systems, validating models using laboratory data, and directing laboratory testing activity. In general, this team member will regularly contribute to project efforts, support other engineering team members, and, when appropriate, aid in project management and/or business development activities. Work is conducted in small teams with individual assignments made for each team member.
The ideal candidate for our organization is professional, detail oriented, innovative and open-minded. The candidate must be comfortable working with Modelica models, designing laboratory experiments, analyzing complex data, drafting meaningful reports, and communicating directly with clients.
Position Responsibilities:
· Complete technical activities to support a variety of projects.
· Develop and assess representative models for HVAC and related thermal systems.
· Develop and assess representative models for HVAC components, including heat exchangers and compressors.
· Analyze complex data sets including modeling and laboratory experimental outputs.

Position Qualifications:
· Minimum three (3) years' experience with Modelica modeling for thermal systems; preference for Dymola and TIL Suite experience
· Minimum three (3) years' experience with laboratory testing and data analysis.
· Minimum three (3) years' experience with HVAC&R systems.
· Familiarity with engineering programming, including Python.
· Ability to communicate clearly and easily with internal team members and external clients.
· Ability to manage individual tasks as well as project deliverables and milestones.
· Ability to "see the big picture", understanding context for individual tasks in relation to the greater objectives of a project; ability to interpret results and readily explain them to clients.
· Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, thermal science or similar; master's degree preferred
· Excellent technical writing skills
· Excellent organizational skills with a keen attention to detail
Work Location: In person at our Beltsville, MD location with the option for remote work 1 - 2 days per week after successful demonstration of competency.
