    The City of Aurora Police Department is seeking experienced Police Officers for lateral entry. An alternative eligibility list will be established for the position of Lateral Police Officer. These are for candidates who are currently employed for a minimum of two (2) years with their agency as a full-time Sworn Municipal Officer, Illinois State Trooper, or County Sheriff's Deputy (Patrol/Road Division). Candidate must also be off probationary status and be in good standing with their current agency. Requirements: * Must possess a State of Illinois Law Enforcement Certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board as a law enforcement officer in good standing (Part-time certification as a law enforcement officer does not meet this requirement.) * Must be at least 23 years old - AND - be under 40 years old at the time of hire. * Must possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent. * Must be a U.S. Citizen at the time of appointment. * Must possess a valid Class "D" driver's license (upload at time of application). * Must possess a valid Illinois FOID card. * Must exhibit good moral character and have not been convicted of any felony. Aurora Police Dept. Tattoo Policy: Tattoos to the head, neck and facial area are prohibited. Hand tattoos are not allowed, however, there are very limited exceptions with approval from the Chief of Police. Officers are permitted to have tattoos elsewhere, visible to the public, if the tattoo is not objectionable or demeaning to the image of the Department. The nature, number, size, and location of the tattoos are all factors in determining whether such tattoos are objectionable or demeaning. Examples include but are not limited to; tattoos that contain nudity, profanity, or to be perceived as gang related, criminal, obscene, sexual, racial, or detracts from the professional image of a law enforcement officer. Make safety inspections. 7. Maintain a working knowledge of all campus facilities and operations, campus staff and their vehicles, and sources of information dissemination. Assist with the administration of college policies and regulations. 8. Monitor ingress and egress of the campus; question patrons regarding removal of property from premises; report theft. 9. May respond to all requests for assistance and emergency calls depending on the nature of the emergency situations, assist campus and local police and fire authorities. 10. Direct traffic as needed for graduations or other special events. 11. Serve as a trainer and mentor for new Campus Safety Officer; assist in the training of evacuation plan sector leaders. Assess training efforts and advise on areas of improvement during post training analysis. 12. Cross train to work dispatch center as needed. Process emergency requests for service and dispatch emergency police, fire and other public safety equipment. 13. Participate in achieving departmental and college goals and objectives. 14. Assist in management of any public health matter where enhanced PPE State mandates are in effect or ordered by the state, college or designee. 15. Obtain and maintain required certifications as required by the college or designee. 16. Assume other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. Must be 18 years of age and have a High School diploma or equivalent. 2. Must pass a complete personal and criminal background check. 3. Must have a valid driver's license and be able to operate cars and 15 passenger vans. 4. Must be able to walk stairs and conduct prolonged foot patrol indoors and out in all weather conditions. 5. Must be able to assist with the rescue of injured or ill persons or the arrest of criminal offenders. 6. Must be able to work varying shifts at all Joliet Junior College campuses. 7. Must be willing to be trained in CPR, AED, first aid and other emergency response as needed. 8. May be required to cross-train to operate the Dispatch Center. 9. Must successfully complete in-house, field training program. 10. May be required complete training in the use of O.C. spray, expandable baton and handcuffing and arrest procedures if required by Chief of Police. 11.
