Duties
During the course of their careers, Uniformed Division Officers carry out assignments in protection. Duties include:
Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, and foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area.
Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions.
Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.
Our Uniformed Division's mission is to protect facilities and venues secured for U.S. Secret Service protectees. Throughout its history, the Uniformed Division has accomplished this mission through individuals who embody honor, integrity and a commitment to excellence.
Today, the Uniformed Division has grown both in size and scope of responsibility and is mandated by law to provide physical security for the White House Complex and the vice president's residence at the Naval Observatory. It also provides security for the Treasury Department building and foreign diplomatic missions in Washington, D.C. The Uniformed Division also has specialized teams including Counter Sniper, Emergency Response, K-9, and more.
Requirements
U.S. citizenship is required.
Possess a current valid U.S. driver's license.
Be at least age 20 and less than age 37 at the time you receive a conditional offer of employment, unless you have previous service in a Federal Civilian Law Enforcement position covered by special law enforcement or firefighter retirement provisions, including early or mandatory retirement. Applicants with veteran's preference must receive a conditional offer of employment prior to reaching age 40 to continue in the application process.
Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory.
Possess uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular. Possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.
Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 25 decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear in the 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz ranges. Applicants must be able to hear the whispered voice at 15 feet with each ear without the use of a hearing aid.
Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
Complete 12 weeks of intensive training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA or Artesia, NM and 17 weeks of specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.

Candidates will be required to take an English fluency exam and demonstrate that they are capable of writing reports in English.

QUALIFICATIONS
The following basic qualifications must apply to all individuals employed or being considered for employment as a CSO:
Citizenship - All CSO personnel must be U.S. citizens.
Have a current and valid Security License in Puerto Rico.
Meet all federal, state, and local requirements for security officers.
Exercise sound judgment, meet and deal with people in a positive manner, and maintain poise and self-control under stress.
Be proficient with technology.
Input and retrieve data using a computerized security system and read, understand, and apply printed instructions, rules, detailed orders, and training materials.
Be at least 21 years of age at the time of employment.
Have earned a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate from a duly accredited institution.
Candidates must meet one (1) or more of the following requirements for experience:
A. Three (3) years of security experience within the past five (5) years OR,
B. Associate degree in a related field plus one (1) year of experience OR,
C. Three (3) years of military experience (active, reserve or National Guard either be currently serving or have been honorably discharged) OR,
D. Successful completion of a State certified Police Officer's Standard Training (POST) certification course OR.
E. Possess a reasonable combination of (A) through (C) listed above Qualified Candidates will take a language test that demonstrates the following communication skills:
Must speaks English fluently.
Must read and understand written English in reports, orders, guidelines, and instructions.
Must be able to write official reports in English that are grammatically correct and technically accurate.
COMPENSATION/BENEFITS
$30.86 total hourly rate, of which $25.93 is the base rate, $4.93 is health and welfare (maximum of 40 hours per pay period). Additional information:
Paid on a semi-monthly pay schedule.
The position is considered non-exempt by the company in accordance with Fair Labor Standards Act and Union Collective Bargaining Agreement.
In addition to your monetary compensation, you will be eligible to participate in the following benefits in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement:
Paid vacation as follows: 80 hours after the first year of employment and each year thereafter for 4 years of employment (granted on your original anniversary date.) After 4 years of service, you will earn 120 hours of vacation per year. (Pro-rated for part-time) Future accrual levels beyond four years are based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
56 personal/sick hours annually (Pro-rated for part-time)
11 days paid holidays annually (Pro-rated for part-time)
Medical insurance programs. Optional coverage for family members as well as Vision, Dental, Life Insurance, Short-term, and Long-term disability plans are available.

Must be physically fit and be able to perform tasks and/or functions listed below in the performance of assigned duties:
Frequent and prolonged walking, standing, sitting, stair climbing, and stooping up to twelve (12) hours either indoors or outdoors, during daytime or nighttime. Outdoor posts.

Ability to use post security equipment, e.g. (metal detectors, X-rays, CCTV); ability to use handcuffs, baton, and firearm) at any time while on duty.
Ability to read post assignments, write reports, and respond to both routine and emergency dispatches/orders.
Ability to subdue violent or potentially violent or disturbed individuals, or intervene in a crisis (e.g., provide emergency First Aid and/or resuscitation while waiting for the arrival of paramedics or other emergency personnel).
Occasional running, sprinting, lifting heavy weights, moving heavy objects, climbing stairs (e.g., in responding to emergencies, ensuring timely and complete facility evacuations, giving pursuit, etc.).
Maintaining an ongoing and regular program of physical fitness, as physical fitness is a requirement of the position.
JOB DUTIES
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Customer Service: Assist visitors, address customer concerns, resolve conflicts.
Traffic Control: Operate checkpoints, manage congestion.
Access Control: Verify IDs, evaluate visitors, monitor alarms and CCTV.
Screening: Inspect vehicles and baggage, screen personnel and packages.
Equipment Testing: Test metal detectors, x-ray machines.
Information Security: Prevent unauthorized material departure.
Key Control: Issue and maintain keys, key cards, and combinations inventory.
Roving Patrols: Conduct foot patrols indoors and outdoors, inspect safeguards.
Emergency Response: Medical and security first response, assist EMS, fire, police.
Written and Radio Communications: Daily logs, regular updates, incident reports.
Maintain Proficiency: Participate in annual training including firearms proficiency, non-lethal weapons proficiency, use of force, and security fundamentals.
