Duties
During the course of their careers, Uniformed Division Officers carry out assignments in protection. Duties include:
Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, and foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area.
Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions.
Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.
Our Uniformed Division's mission is to protect facilities and venues secured for U.S. Secret Service protectees. Throughout its history, the Uniformed Division has accomplished this mission through individuals who embody honor, integrity and a commitment to excellence.
Today, the Uniformed Division has grown both in size and scope of responsibility and is mandated by law to provide physical security for the White House Complex and the vice president's residence at the Naval Observatory. It also provides security for the Treasury Department building and foreign diplomatic missions in Washington, D.C. The Uniformed Division also has specialized teams including Counter Sniper, Emergency Response, K-9, and more.
Requirements
U.S. citizenship is required.
Possess a current valid U.S. driver's license.
Be at least age 20 and less than age 37 at the time you receive a conditional offer of employment, unless you have previous service in a Federal Civilian Law Enforcement position covered by special law enforcement or firefighter retirement provisions, including early or mandatory retirement. Applicants with veteran's preference must receive a conditional offer of employment prior to reaching age 40 to continue in the application process.
Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory.
Possess uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular. Possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.
Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 25 decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear in the 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz ranges. Applicants must be able to hear the whispered voice at 15 feet with each ear without the use of a hearing aid.
Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
Complete 12 weeks of intensive training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA or Artesia, NM and 17 weeks of specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.

Security's Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Responsible for executing security services as outlined in the Post Order Manual and accompanying policy and procedural guidelines and as directed by SMSSI Management.

Responsible for knowing all site-specific policies and procedures and implementing emergency response activities as appropriate.
Responsible for following all company procedures, maintaining acceptable attendance, and adhering to all grooming and customer service standards.
Responsible for participating in all company and site required orientation and training programs.
Responding to any incidents that occur during shift, in conformity with the Post Orders and the Company's Use of Force Policy, ensuring appropriate action is taken, all reports are properly completed, and appropriate parties are notified in a timely manner.
Conducting security, customer service, or support function(s) as directed by supervisor or in support of client request(s).

PHYSICAL/WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is typically performed in varied settings involving standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods of time. Security Officers perform duties outdoors during inclement weather conditions. Security Officers work with local law enforcement and emergency responders, use personal computers and the telephone to conduct daily business. This position must be able to regularly lift, carry, move and/or set up equipment and materials that weigh up to 40 pounds. Must be able to shoot, move and communicate as a member of a team and run or move quickly for short distances with required duty gear and weapon(s).
MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
Per Directive Number 1202.01, and in accordance with (IAW) the Army National Guard Security Cooperative Agreement, Appendix 3, all personnel employed by TMD who perform security duties must meet annual medical screening and drug testing requirements.
Initial hire: Applicants will complete the Health Self-Certification and Hold Harmless Agreement to confirm their ability to perform the Physical Ability Test (PAT) and agree to hold TMD harmless for any damage or injury that may occur during the PAT conducted prior to employment. All agreements will be signed and notarized before the initial interview. Applicants unwilling to complete this agreement will be ineligible for employment with TMD as a Security Officer.
Periodic medical evaluation must be performed annually at the agency's expense to certify whether the individual is medically fit to perform the essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation, identify any health condition that may be substantially aggravated by the job, and evaluate an individual's health and fitness to take the Physical Ability Test (PAT), and serve as a baseline for tracking health trends.
Drug Use: May be subject to periodic drug testing.
Hearing: The applicant must meet the minimal standard with or without hearing aids of 35 decibels or better in each of the four frequencies: 500, 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz; to include long distance, directional, and voice conversation hearing.
Vision: The applicant must have distance vision at least 20/30 in one eye and 20/100 in the other, or 20/40 in one eye and 20/70 in the other, and near vision should be correctable to 20/40 binocularly (both eyes open). Uncorrected binocular visual acuity should be at least 20/100. Individuals should be able to discriminate between vivid red and green colors (lights and placards). Additionally, individuals should have at least a total horizontal visual field of 120 degrees and at least a total vertical visual field of 40 degrees.
PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST
Per Directive Number 1402.03, the Physical Agility Test (PAT) serves to provide a measure of the individual's preparedness to successfully accomplish the essential functions of the position.
Initial Hire: The primary PAT will be conducted prior to interview for applicants to demonstrate the ability to perform essential job functions. Applicants must sign a Health Self-Certification and Hold Harmless Agreement before participating in the primary PAT. Only applicants who have completed the primary PAT will be interviewed and considered for employment.
Successful completion of the primary PAT is not a guarantee of employment.
Current employees will conduct PAT within one year of the date of their initial medical clearance; thereafter, passing the record PAT is required annually. PAT includes the following activities:
25 feet dummy drag in under 15 seconds: This event demonstrates the ability to pull an injured individual out of the line of fire to a position of cover.
100-meter run in under 30 seconds (females) or 25 seconds (males): This event demonstrates anaerobic capacity used in high intensity baton and defensive tactics training and emphasizes the importance for performing short, intense bursts of effort.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure the vehicle is clean, gassed, and ready to go, noting any malfunction at the first sign.
