Duties
During the course of their careers, Uniformed Division Officers carry out assignments in protection. Duties include:
Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, and foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area.
Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions.
Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.
Our Uniformed Division's mission is to protect facilities and venues secured for U.S. Secret Service protectees. Throughout its history, the Uniformed Division has accomplished this mission through individuals who embody honor, integrity and a commitment to excellence.
Today, the Uniformed Division has grown both in size and scope of responsibility and is mandated by law to provide physical security for the White House Complex and the vice president's residence at the Naval Observatory. It also provides security for the Treasury Department building and foreign diplomatic missions in Washington, D.C. The Uniformed Division also has specialized teams including Counter Sniper, Emergency Response, K-9, and more.
Requirements
U.S. citizenship is required.
Possess a current valid U.S. driver's license.
Be at least age 20 and less than age 37 at the time you receive a conditional offer of employment, unless you have previous service in a Federal Civilian Law Enforcement position covered by special law enforcement or firefighter retirement provisions, including early or mandatory retirement. Applicants with veteran's preference must receive a conditional offer of employment prior to reaching age 40 to continue in the application process.
Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory.
Possess uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular. Possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.
Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 25 decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear in the 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz ranges. Applicants must be able to hear the whispered voice at 15 feet with each ear without the use of a hearing aid.
Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
Complete 12 weeks of intensive training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA or Artesia, NM and 17 weeks of specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.

Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in police science, public administration or related field; a master's degree is preferred. Completion of an advanced leadership and senior management training program such as the FBI National Academy, Northwestern's School of Police Staff and Command, Southern Police Institute's Administrative Officers Course, or PERF Senior Management Institute for Police is highly desirable.
Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive supervisory experience in law enforcement with at least two (2) years of experience of senior command-level experience as a Chief, Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief, or similar senior administrative rank in police administration.
Special Requirements: Valid Illinois Driver's License and certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, or the ability to obtain certification within six months of appointment. Must reside within the city's corporate limits within six (6) months of hire. A six (6) month extension may be granted with the approval of the city manager for extenuating circumstances.

Individuals working in the capacity of Police Officer protect the safety and security of persons, property, equipment and facilities, and protect and preserve individual civil rights in and around Northern Illinois University controlled lands. Police personnel enforce all applicable Federal, State and local laws, rules, regulations and University policies and procedures. Police officers maintain the public peace and order and assist in facilitating the adjudication of infractions of the University judicial code and State or Federal Criminal or Civil Code violations.
Overview
The position of Lateral Police Officer is a responsible professional public safety position with full executive law enforcement authority. Certification: All Lateral transfer entry process candidates must provide documentation to show that they are currently or recently employed within the past 12 months as a full-time certified Peace Officer in the State of Illinois. Applicants must show they have been employed by a State of Illinois law enforcement agency as a full-time police officer for at least 2 years. Applicants must provide documentation that they have fulfilled the requirements of the Illinois Police Training Act. Testing: Lateral transfer candidates who meet the requirements and are selected for entry will not be required to take any part of the entry-level exam process. Lateral transfer candidates will be required to complete all other phases of the selection process before receiving an offer of employment, such as background check, credit check, social media check, psychological examination, polygraph, medical examination, vision and drug screening. The psychological and all medical tests will be completed after receiving a conditional offer of employment. You will be contacted for an oral interview to confirm eligibility and initiate the background process. All appointments are subject to a probationary period of 12 months.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Preventing death or injury and protecting property while preserving the public peace, order and tranquility through the use of sophisticated technologies, aggressive mobile and foot patrols, covert and overt surveillance initiatives and the employment of appropriate investigative strategies. Police officers are, at a minimum, required to function as First Responders and maintain such certification throughout the term of their employment. Cost of initial certification and regular maintenance will be provided by the department, if necessary. Police officers in their capacity as First Responders are required to render effective medical assistance within their level of certification and expertise as may be necessary to ensure the health and wellbeing of anyone requiring such assistance. The fair and impartial enforcement of State criminal, traffic and motor vehicle laws, and adopted edicts from the University Board of Trustees through a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Illinois State Statutes and the University's policies, procedures, rules and regulations and how they should be applied. Collecting information relative to civil and criminal investigations, preparing cases for and providing testimony in court and preparing detailed reports on assigned complaints and communicating the outcomes in formal judicial and informal non-judicial settings effectively, both orally and in writing. Directing motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic, conducting motor vehicle accident investigations, preparing required state motor vehicle accident reports and maintaining complete accurate, articulate accident investigation documents. Engaging in regular foot and mobile patrol activities, responding to alarms, handling emergency complaints, serving warrants as required, engaging in self-initiated police activities and transporting prisoners. Operating and maintaining department equipment in accordance with agency policy and procedures including but not limited to: emergency vehicles, RADAR , LIDAR or other speed measuring devices, breath/alcohol analyzers, mobile computing systems, automated defibrillators and office machines. Performing building security and parking regulation enforcement. Promote exceptional relationships with the university community. Police officers may be required to operate communications equipment while temporarily functioning as a telecommunicator observing all of the policies and procedures pertaining to that position and caring for and maintaining the equipment in their control. Police officers assist other jurisdictions upon request in non-emergency or emergency circumstances as provided for in the parent agency policies. Compensation
The hourly wage for this position is determined based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Champaign Educational Support Professionals, which is available on our website. The District gives experienced employees up to 20 years of experience credit for service outside the District if it is directly related to their position. 100% of an employee's contributions to IMRF are currently paid by the Board of Education. The Board also pays 100% of employee-only health and term life insurance. There is a minimal employee cost for vision insurance. Dental is also available at competitive rates to interested employees. There are opportunities for employees to earn additional compensation during the regular school year and in the summer.

Maintains current Department training standards in radio communications, verbal de-escalation, stabilization, CPR, application of clinical restraints, conducted energy weapon (Taser), to include training on any/all department-issued equipment and/or requirements identified in the Annual Training Plan.
License/Registration/Certification Required:
Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) issued by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) must be obtained on a one-time basis within two years of appointment to this role. Recertification is not required.

Duties
During the course of their careers, Uniformed Division Officers carry out assignments in protection. Duties include:
Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, and foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area.
Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions.
Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.
Our Uniformed Division's mission is to protect facilities and venues secured for U.S. Secret Service protectees. Throughout its history, the Uniformed Division has accomplished this mission through individuals who embody honor, integrity and a commitment to excellence.
Today, the Uniformed Division has grown both in size and scope of responsibility and is mandated by law to provide physical security for the White House Complex and the vice president's residence at the Naval Observatory. It also provides security for the Treasury Department building and foreign diplomatic missions in Washington, D.C. The Uniformed Division also has specialized teams including Counter Sniper, Emergency Response, K-9, and more.
Requirements
U.S. citizenship is required.
Possess a current valid U.S. driver's license.
Be at least age 20 and less than age 37 at the time you receive a conditional offer of employment, unless you have previous service in a Federal Civilian Law Enforcement position covered by special law enforcement or firefighter retirement provisions, including early or mandatory retirement. Applicants with veteran's preference must receive a conditional offer of employment prior to reaching age 40 to continue in the application process.
Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory.
Possess uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular. Possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.
Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 25 decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear in the 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz ranges. Applicants must be able to hear the whispered voice at 15 feet with each ear without the use of a hearing aid.
Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
Complete 12 weeks of intensive training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA or Artesia, NM and 17 weeks of specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.
Certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so, if you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959.

POSITION: Anticipated Campus Safety (JHHS) 40 hrs/wk., 7:15 a.m. - 3:45 p.m., Effective March 15, 2025
SALARY: Grade 3, Step 1, $24.06 Salary schedule is listed in the ESPA agreeement linked here.
ASSIGNMENT: 10 Month
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: This work involves supervising the behavior of students outside the classroom, assisting the teachers with immediate disciplinary problems in the classroom, promoting the well-being and safety of students, and providing assistance and direction to campus visitors. There is considerable contact with students, staff, parents and the general public. Must be tactful, use fairness and independent judgment when dealing with a variety of problems and emergency situations experienced by students and visitors. The employee must also exercise initiative in keeping informed of procedures and policies.
An employee in this position works within clearly established systems and procedures, must exhibit organizational skills and exercise independent judgment and confidentiality in the performance of duties. The Campus Safety must exhibit initiative and embrace a collaborative team approach to accomplish the mission of the district.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must have physical ability to lift/move supplies, materials, and office equipment up to 40 lbs.
Must sit at workstation for extended periods of time and/or move frequently from workstation to various other areas of building.
Must organize and prioritize workflow.
Must be proficient in the use of computers, office practices, procedures and office equipment.
Must project a positive image of the district to students, staff and the general public as well as exhibit a positive employee attitude.
Must demonstrate appropriate interpersonal skills, and communicate clearly and respectfully with students, staff, parents, visitors and the general public.
Must have awareness of a variety of student needs, including physical and social emotional needs.
Must hold a valid driver's license.
Must complete district approved Crisis Prevention Institute training (CPI).
Must have physical ability to move about frequently and quickly throughout the school campus.
Must have possession of a valid Red Cross First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/AED Certification or equivalent.
POSITION EXPECTATIONS:
1. Assisting in the efficient and effective functioning of the school including, but not limited to:
a. supporting school safety and district crisis plans.
b. responding to emergency or crisis situations for the purpose of addressing immediate safety concerns.
c. promoting a safe school environment by observing and reporting behavior of students, parents and visitors on school property.
d. promoting a clean school environment and ensures that school policies and procedures are followed school wide by supervising student's behavior outside of the classrooms.
e. assisting visitors by helping them obtain a visitor's pass and directing them to the appropriate location.
f. supporting and supervising students in non-academic settings.
g. assisting students who appear ill, distraught, or otherwise needy, by contacting parents or appropriate school personnel and referring to the appropriate services.
h. promoting a clean school environment and correcting student misperceptions of others by modeling appropriate behavior and/or talking to the students.
i. assisting the DHSSSW and School Resource Officer in escorting students to and from various locations.
2. Particpating in appropriate professional development activities in order to enhance job performance.
3. Cultivating and developing inclusive and equitable working relationships with staff, students and community members.
