Duties
During the course of their careers, Uniformed Division Officers carry out assignments in protection. Duties include:
Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, and foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area.
Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions.
Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.
Our Uniformed Division's mission is to protect facilities and venues secured for U.S. Secret Service protectees. Throughout its history, the Uniformed Division has accomplished this mission through individuals who embody honor, integrity and a commitment to excellence.
Today, the Uniformed Division has grown both in size and scope of responsibility and is mandated by law to provide physical security for the White House Complex and the vice president's residence at the Naval Observatory. It also provides security for the Treasury Department building and foreign diplomatic missions in Washington, D.C. Requirements
U.S. citizenship is required.
Possess a current valid U.S. driver's license.
Be at least age 20 and less than age 37 at the time you receive a conditional offer of employment, unless you have previous service in a Federal Civilian Law Enforcement position covered by special law enforcement or firefighter retirement provisions, including early or mandatory retirement. Applicants with veteran's preference must receive a conditional offer of employment prior to reaching age 40 to continue in the application process.
Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory.

Patrols post on foot or mounted when necessary. 9. Alerts outside police agencies and advises school administration on specific problems, when necessary. 10. While on desk duty, answers telephone and does related office work. 11. Receives and transmits radio messages, gives orders to, and instructs, guards. 12. Checks daily reports for incidents and prepares reports. 13. Has responsibility for traffic control, including recommendations for parking rules and regulations.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 1. Considerable knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of a security force. 2. Knowledge of reading/using street and building maps as it applies to following directions. 3. Knowledge of the principles and practices in the field of safety and security. 4. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports. 5. Ability to plan and to supervise the work of subordinate personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience 1. Graduation from high school
and 2. Two years of satisfactory experience in law enforcement or security operations.
Necessary Special Requirement
Continuing possession of registration as a Security Guard issued by the New York State Department of State may be required.
NOTE: Experience, as outlined above, in excess of the two-year requirement may be substituted for high school education on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of two years.
