Perform routine monitoring of safety concerns and hazards for campus buildings and grounds, including fire dangers, lighting needs, toxic spills, water leaks, and heating/hot water equipment problems.
Perform continuous inspections of campus buildings daily including locking and unlocking entry doors, and checking authorized building uses.
Enforce all University policies, student conduct regulations, and appropriate Federal, State, and local laws as necessary to ensure compliance by the NPU community and its visitors.
Investigate incidents on campus as needed in order to provide for immediate safety needs, and proper handling of the incident and its aftermath as appropriate.
Document incidents for administrative action or subsequent criminal prosecution. Maintain regular contact with appropriate law enforcement agencies, University staff offices, and off-campus departments as needed, to guarantee clear and timely exchange of information. ELEMENTS AND DURATION OF THE SELECTION PROCESS

Apprehends, arrests, and transports suspects to police holding facility for booking and temporary incarceration. Performs booking of suspects according to established procedures and releases authorized personnel. Transports offenders to and from County Jail facilities as necessary.
Patrols assigned areas by vehicle or on foot, serving as a visible deterrent to crime and remaining alert to special problems in regard to crime prevention and possible criminal activity. Checks business establishments, dwellings and other buildings for signs of illegal entry. Provides information and assistance to general public and investigates suspicious activity or situations.
Enforces Village traffic ordinances, regulates traffic, serving as a visible deterrent, promotes traffic safety, performs speed control activities, issues citations to violators of the Illinois Motors Vehicle Code and the Municipal Code for the Village of Hanover Park. Arrests or warns persons guilty of violating motor vehicle regulations and safe driving practices. Monitors passing traffic to detect stolen vehicles and arrests drivers where ownership is not apparent.
Prepares, maintains, and forwards all requisite reports and records of activities. Reviews all reports and sources of information that aid in the proper disposition of assigned cases. Prepares cases for court presentation and provides relevant testimony in court.

* Inspects and maintains law enforcement equipment by observing and cleaning to keep the equipment in reliable operating condition.

Qualifications:
* Lateral transfers may be any previously full-time sworn officer who is currently certified or can receive a waiver by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board or within another state so long as the State of Illinois recognizes the certification.
* Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice or related field OR combination of college education and experience or equivalent experience.
* No Felony or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude.
* Ability to patrol all facilities on foot.
* A valid driver's license.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Valid FOID card or ability to obtain.
* Ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: This work involves supervising the behavior of students outside the classroom, assisting the teachers with immediate disciplinary problems in the classroom, promoting the well-being and safety of students, and providing assistance and direction to campus visitors. There is considerable contact with students, staff, parents and the general public. Must be tactful, use fairness and independent judgment when dealing with a variety of problems and emergency situations experienced by students and visitors. The employee must also exercise initiative in keeping informed of procedures and policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:
