Job Description:
Security Guards work in a variety of different settings - this includes healthcare (hospital) settings, retail centers, high and low rise office buildings, as well as other commercial and residential sites. This job may be physically demanding due to the varied physical requirements. This job requires applicants to be able to work both day and overnight shift rotations as well as weekends and holidays.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide exceptional customer service and assistance and sustain effective relationships with clients and patrons
• Conduct proactive patrols to ensure safety and address policy breaches, and note any concerns
• Attend and investigate security alarms and emergencies in a timely and professional manner

A Brief Overview
Under the general observation and assistance of a Security Officer II, this entry-level security position is accountable for the day-to-day functions of Security and Safety within the hospital and other assigned CHS entities. Effectively controls combative, unruly or intoxicated patients, visitors, employees or trespassers, deescalating the situation using appropriate methods to achieve a desirable outcome. Practices “language of caring” and demonstrates the minimal force necessary to achieve a security objective.
Maintains a safe environment by practicing situational awareness and being observant for safety and security concerns and demonstrative initiative in addressing them or causing them to be addressed in a timely manner.
Provides timely information to the Security Control Center Operators to ensure accurate documentation of activity and completes all incident reports in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with policy and SOP.

Salary Information: The salary range for Lincoln, NE (LNK - Lincoln Airport) is $40,332 to $56,282 or $19.33 to $26.97 per hour and includes locality pay of 17.06%.
This Transportation Security Officer position is located in Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). As a Transportation Security Officer (TSOs) within Security Operations (SO), you will provide security and protection of air travelers, airports and aircraft in a courteous and professional manner. Duties may include but are not limited to:
* Operating various screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo and on passengers, and preventing those objects from being transported onto aircraft.
* Performing searches and screening, which may include physical interaction with passengers (e.g., pat-downs, search of property, etc.), conducting bag searches and lifting/carrying bags, bins, and property weighing up to 50lbs.
* Controlling terminal entry and exit points.
* Interacting with the public, giving directions and responding to inquiries.
* Maintaining focus and awareness while working in a stressful environment which includes noise from alarms, machinery and people, crowd distractions, time pressure, and disruptive and angry passengers, in order to preserve the professional ability to identify and locate potentially life threatening or mass destruction devices, and to make effective decisions in both crisis and routine situations.

Qualifications
To qualify for the SV-D pay band (equivalent to the GS-5/6), you must meet one of the qualification requirements (A OR B) outlined below:
A. Experience: At least one year of full-time work experience in the security Industry, aviation screening, or as an X-ray technician.
OR
B. Education: Have a high school diploma, General Educational Development (GED), High School Equivalency Test (HiSET), or Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) high school equivalency certificate.
Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.

Occasional Travel Required: A minimum of three (3) weeks of travel in a full-time duty status may be required to complete TSA's New Hire training. Therefore, former Federal or Postal Service employees who are receiving a civilian retirement annuity may have their salary reduced by the amount of their pension, which could result in a biweekly net pay as low as zero dollars ($0.00) or a debt owed to the Federal Government.
TSO Dress and Appearance Responsibilities: TSOs must adhere to the current TSA dress and appearance requirements. For example, with the exception of half-inch diameter stud-style earrings, non-protruding ear gauges or spacers that match your skin and do not exceed one half-inch diameter, inconspicuous nose or tongue piercings that match your skin or tongue, body piercings may not be visible to the public. Associate's degree or at least 60 semester hours of college credits from an accredited institution; or two years of certified law enforcement experience; or two years of military experience; or any such combination of education, experience, and training as may be acceptable to the hiring authority.

Enforce applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the Omaha Airport Authority (OAA)'s rules and regulations and the provisions of the Airport Security Program
Perform duties outlined in the Police Department Standard Operating Procedures, Airport Emergency Plan, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Certification Manual, and other contingency plans
Perform airside operations area escorts, as necessary, once trained, authorized, and badged to drive in the non-movement area
Perform various patrol and surveillance functions, both vehicle and by foot, to assess security measures and ensure a high level of security for airport property, facilities, and persons
Provide law enforcement support for Transportation Security Administration (TSA) passenger screening functions
Responding to requests for police assistance
Investigate minor crimes occurring at the airport, provide preliminary response for serious crimes, forward reports for law enforcement follow-up investigations
Maintain proper logbooks, reports, and forms; recording circumstances surrounding events and investigations that occur while on duty
Maintain traffic flow on airport roadways and issue citations, when appropriate
Oversee vehicular traffic security for the parking garage during heightened federal security alerts
Appear in court to present evidence and testify, as needed
Perform designated Communication Center duties, as assigned
Communicate essential information to appropriate parties adhering to established protocols for radio use
Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge of the proper use and care of firearms, maintaining competency in the use of authorized service weapons as well as passing the annual State of Nebraska Firearms Qualifications Course
Ability to obtain a non-movement area driver qualification within the probationary/qualification period and maintain the certification throughout employment
Valid Nebraska or Iowa driver's license
Clear communication, both written and verbally, in English
Ability to understand and carry out complex written and oral instructions
Situational analysis for adoption of a quick and efficient course of action, including making logical decisions under pressure
Capable of learning factual materials and ability to apply knowledge in critical situations
Mental alertness and good observation skills
Assertiveness in potentially dangerous situations

Physical requirements require officers to often carry gear such as weapons, protective vests, and communication devices. Ability to carry out a foot pursuit if necessary and subdue or restrain suspects, require upper and lower body strength to apply handcuffs or control individuals. Officers need good dexterity to operate firearms, radios, vehicles, and other tools. Other tasks and duties include applying first aid, writing and submitting reports in a timely manner. This job involves walking, standing, and patrolling for extended periods of time indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.
