Duties
During the course of their careers, Uniformed Division Officers carry out assignments in protection. Duties include:
Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, and foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area.
Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions.
Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.
Our Uniformed Division's mission is to protect facilities and venues secured for U.S. Secret Service protectees. Throughout its history, the Uniformed Division has accomplished this mission through individuals who embody honor, integrity and a commitment to excellence.
Today, the Uniformed Division has grown both in size and scope of responsibility and is mandated by law to provide physical security for the White House Complex and the vice president's residence at the Naval Observatory. It also provides security for the Treasury Department building and foreign diplomatic missions in Washington, D.C. The Uniformed Division also has specialized teams including Counter Sniper, Emergency Response, K-9, and more.
Requirements
U.S. citizenship is required.
Possess a current valid U.S. driver's license.
Be at least age 20 and less than age 37 at the time you receive a conditional offer of employment, unless you have previous service in a Federal Civilian Law Enforcement position covered by special law enforcement or firefighter retirement provisions, including early or mandatory retirement. Applicants with veteran's preference must receive a conditional offer of employment prior to reaching age 40 to continue in the application process.
Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory.
Possess uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular. Possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.
Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 25 decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear in the 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz ranges. Applicants must be able to hear the whispered voice at 15 feet with each ear without the use of a hearing aid.

Position Summary: This position will be responsible for providing safety, security and protection of persons, buildings and/or property within the University. You will be greeting incoming guests to the Campus Safety Department, answering phone calls, completing reports, monitoring radio's and communicating via the radio to other officers on campus. You will be responsible for entering data into our reporting system, monitoring alarm and weather tracking systems, operate the Student I.D. computer system, conduct traffic control, parking enforcement, safety patrols, answering calls for service and properly documenting them. You are expected to report for work fit for duty, which means able to perform your job in a safe, appropriate and effective manner.
The CSO must be available for Overtime on weekends and opposite shifts on an "as needed" basis (a combination of 8 hour and 12 hour shifts). The CSO with be expected to become certified/trained in CPR, First Aid and Narcan.

The CSO works under the general supervision of an Assistant or Associate Director. Is familiar with the work routine and proper policy and procedures within the department and uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments. Refers to supervisor for clarification, interpretation and direction for new assignments; reviews work to remain aware of progress, work methods, and technical accuracy.
Provide security to the University Community by enforcing University Policies, securing assigned buildings and frequent campus patrols. Investigate any observed or reported suspicious activity. Be approachable and responsive to requests. Provide basic information and directions to students, faculty, staff and guests of the University. Monitor and provide guidance to student workers to ensure they are successful.
Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness, cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectful University Community. When interacting with staff, faculty, students and guests of the University demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior. Engage in educational opportunities and required training to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.
Provide safety escorts to students, faculty, staff and guests when requested. Actively patrol campus on foot, bicycle, golf cart or vehicle. Assist students, faculty and staff with access to buildings or residence hall rooms as needed and approved.
Maintain key control and access to secure or restricted areas. Monitor key card access to buildings on campus. Attend campus safety related training courses, classes and seminars as needed. Provide safety presentations when requested by faculty or staff. Other investigative or special projects assigned by the Director of Campus Safety. Provide vehicle jumpstarts or unlocks to community members. Provide traffic control at events on campus or during emergencies.
Respond to campus incidents such as burglar/panic alarms, fire alarms, trouble alarms, disputes between students, violations of University Policy, medical and other emergencies. In times of medical emergencies provide emergency first aid or CPR where appropriate and assist in the transportation of persons when necessary. Coordinate with Lisle Police and Lisle/Woodridge Fire Department, Residence Life in responding to emergencies. Responsible for activating the Universities emergency broadcast system for weather and active threat events.
Violations of Code of Conduct will be promptly, accurately and thoroughly documented. Complete all necessary forms, including tickets and reports, provide accurate information of involved persons and witnesses. Enforce University parking rules and regulations and issue campus citations when necessary. Complete a daily summary at the end of your shift.
Other Functions:
Maintain a positive working relationship with campus personnel and local first responders.
Clean and fuel department vehicles.
Annual involvement in the development and implementation of programs designed to interact with students.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Education: High School Graduate/GED Required, Bachelor's Degree Preferred
Experience: Customer service experience preferred. Law enforcement experience preferred. Higher Education experience preferred.
Specific Skills: Ability to speak clearly and be understood via radio and phone communication. Ability to read, understand and apply both written and verbal directives. Normal hearing, due to the heavy volume of telephone and radio communication, audible alarms, and duties requiring monitoring of police/fire/EMS radio traffic. Strong command of the English language. Ability to maintain calm and professional demeanor during stressful or critical situations. Ability to communicate department/University policies and procedures in a professional manner. Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office products. Comfortable with technical equipment to include, radios, scanners, electronic access control, fire panels and PC based programs. Ability to work varying shifts, as required to meet departmental requirements.

Requirements:

40 Hour state certification and PERC Card

POSITION SUMMARY
Campus Safety Officers are non-sworn safety/security officers Maintains a highly visible professional presence on the campus in order to provide various types of immediate assistance to students, employees and visitors of the College. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Maintain high visibility on campus locations; act professionally and exhibit a pleasant personality in public.
2. Assist students, staff and visitors; create a customer friendly environment; make suggestions to improve customer service.
3. Monitor the campus for building and patron safety; advise appropriate personnel of situations and/or take appropriate actions. Ask unauthorized individuals to leave the building/grounds; advise on parking violations.
4. Open and close the buildings, individual offices and classrooms and other rooms; report and lock doors.
5. Escort patrons to their vehicles upon request; assist with jump starting disabled vehicles, locked keys in vehicle, etc.
6. Make routine patrols of parking areas and advise on lighting, overnight vehicles, issue parking violations and unsafe or unusual conditions. Report and prepare accident/incident reports. Make safety inspections.
7. Maintain a working knowledge of all campus facilities and operations, campus staff and their vehicles, and sources of information dissemination. Assist with the administration of college policies and regulations.
8. Monitor ingress and egress of the campus; question patrons regarding removal of property from premises; report theft.
9. May respond to all requests for assistance and emergency calls depending on the nature of the emergency situations, assist campus and local police and fire authorities.
10. Direct traffic as needed for graduations or other special events.
11. Serve as a trainer and mentor for new Campus Safety Officer; assist in the training of evacuation plan sector leaders. Assess training efforts and advise on areas of improvement during post training analysis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must be 18 years of age and have a High School diploma or equivalent.
