A guard performs routine security duties to deter, observe, detect and/or report incidents in order to prevent unlawful or unauthorized activity or to protect public property, buildings, equipment, etc. The work typically includes patrolling public buildings and grounds at night when the facilities are closed for business, unoccupied or closed to the public. An employee in this class does not exercise supervision. Does related work as required.
Typical Work Activities:
* Perform various duties to include but not limited to: Residence Hall building access control and other job related duties.
* Patrol assigned building(s) or grounds on a regular or scheduled basis to detect fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry, equipment failures or any suspicious findings to protect the property from threat, harm or theft.
* Reports any and all suspicious activity or illegal activity on an immediate basis as required in an emergency.
* Closes or locks doors, windows or fire doors according to prescribed routines, to deter criminal activity or accidental loss.
* Examines doors, windows, gates and locks to determine their security.
* Watches for and reports irregularities to designated personnel.
* Gives directions or answers questions for visitors to assist them in locating their destination or informing them of pertinent information.
* Questions people who appear to be loitering to determine their reasons for their presence; may order those without legitimate purpose to leave the premises.
* May assist in crowd control at special events
Requirements:
* Working knowledge of standard security guard functions.
* Ability to learn guard routes and routines.
* Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
* Ability to learn the layout of assigned facilities and the locations of checkpoints.
* Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
* Ability to recognize breaches of security and obvious maintenance problems which impact on security of facilities.
* Ability to relate to visitors in simple spoken exchanges of information.
* Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must be able to meet the requirements as set forth under New York State Law for Security Guards and overseen by the New York State Department of State.
The following training courses are required to obtain your NYS unarmed Guard License:
* 8 Hour Pre-Assignment Training- A general introductory course. You must complete this course and submit a copy of the certificate issued to you with your security guard application.
* 16 Hour On-The-Job Training (OJT) - A course relevant to the duties of guards, requirements of the work site, and the needs of the employer. You must complete this training within 90 days of employment as a security guard.
* 8 Hour Annual In-Service Training - This course must be completed each calendar year you hold a security guard registration. Your registration is issued for two years, therefore, you must complete (two) 8 Hour Annual In-Service training courses within your registration effective and expiration dates to be eligible for renewal.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Current Security Guard certification is preferred but training can be provided if necessary to obtain the certification.
* Onondaga Community College is licensed by NYS to provide security guard training, which meets the NYS requirement.

Minimum Qualifications

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

TSO Dress and Appearance Responsibilities: TSOs must adhere to the current TSA dress and appearance requirements. For example, with the exception of half-inch diameter stud-style earrings, non-protruding ear gauges or spacers that match your skin and do not exceed one half-inch diameter, inconspicuous nose or tongue piercings that match your skin or tongue, body piercings may not be visible to the public. These requirements dictate if you have a tattoo that would be visible beyond the standard TSO uniform in areas such as the head and face including a partial tattoo that extends more than one inch beyond the upper neck or behind the ear, it could potentially render you ineligible for the position unless it was able to be covered at all times and not visible to the general public. Additionally, tattoos that are indecent, commonly associated with gangs, extremists, and/or supremacist organizations or that advocate sexual, racial, or religious discrimination, or have a negative impact on TSA's ability to carry out its mission must be covered at all times.
Work Schedules for Full-time Positions: Specific work shifts and schedules will be determined by the airport.
* Full-time positions require 40 hours per week;
* Full-time work consists of shift-work on any day from Sunday through Saturday, which may include irregular hours, nights, holidays, overtime, extended shifts and weekend shifts, changing shifts, and split shifts.
* A "split-shift" consists of any two work shifts, each lasting at least two (2) hours in one 24-hour period, with at least two (2) hours between work shifts.

GUARD - Openings exist for Auburn and Fulton campus locations. Schedule generally averages 10 -18 hours per week to include coverage for various sporting or designated events. Candidates must be able to meet the requirements as set forth under New York State Law for Security Guards as overseen by the New York State Department of State.
The following training courses are required to obtain your NYS unarmed Guard License:
* 8-Hour Pre-Assignment Training- A general introductory course. You must complete this course and submit a copy of the certificate issued to you with your security guard application.
* 16-Hour On-The-Job Training (OJT) - A course relevant to the duties of guards, requirements of the work site, and the needs of the employer. You must complete this training within 90 days of employment as a security Guard.
* 8-Hour Annual In-Service Training - Coursework must be completed each calendar year.
NOTE: A registration is issued for two years; therefore, Guards must complete (two) 8 Hour Annual In-Service training courses within the active registration dates to be eligible for renewal.
PREFERRED Qualifications:
Current Security Guard certification is preferred but training may be provided as necessary to obtain certification.
NOTE: Cayuga Community College is licensed by NYS to provide security Guard training, which meets the NYS requirement.

THE ROLE
As a member of our Event Security Team, you will guard, patrol, and monitor the venue premises to keep guests, band members, team members, and vendors safe, and prevent theft, violence, or infractions of rules.
