Duties
During the course of their careers, Uniformed Division Officers carry out assignments in protection. Duties include:
Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, and foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area.
Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions.
Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.
Our Uniformed Division's mission is to protect facilities and venues secured for U.S. Secret Service protectees. Throughout its history, the Uniformed Division has accomplished this mission through individuals who embody honor, integrity and a commitment to excellence.
Today, the Uniformed Division has grown both in size and scope of responsibility and is mandated by law to provide physical security for the White House Complex and the vice president's residence at the Naval Observatory. It also provides security for the Treasury Department building and foreign diplomatic missions in Washington, D.C. The Uniformed Division also has specialized teams including Counter Sniper, Emergency Response, K-9, and more.
Requirements
U.S. citizenship is required.
Possess a current valid U.S. driver's license.
Be at least age 20 and less than age 37 at the time you receive a conditional offer of employment, unless you have previous service in a Federal Civilian Law Enforcement position covered by special law enforcement or firefighter retirement provisions, including early or mandatory retirement. Applicants with veteran's preference must receive a conditional offer of employment prior to reaching age 40 to continue in the application process.
Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory.
Possess uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular. Possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.
Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 25 decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear in the 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz ranges. Applicants must be able to hear the whispered voice at 15 feet with each ear without the use of a hearing aid.
Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
Complete 12 weeks of intensive training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA or Artesia, NM and 17 weeks of specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.

Principal Accountabilities
* Police officers for the Department of Public Safety operate on shifts twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and are subject to be called back to duty at any time, regardless of their days off or other leave, including vacation.
* During emergency circumstances, police officers are classified as "mission essential" personnel and must report for work. The police officer is the first responder to all criminal incidents, fires, hazardous material spills, injuries, illnesses and vehicular accidents, as well as any other situation which may arise.

What You'll Do
This position is responsible for keeping the ODJFS buildings and grounds safe and secure. This involves patrolling, both on foot and by car, to check for things like fires, damage, theft, broken equipment, and leaks, and making sure doors are locked or unlocked as needed. You'll need to report any safety violations or unusual incidents, and sometimes help investigate complaints, injuries, accidents, or thefts.
You'll also monitor the electronic security for all ODJFS offices statewide, and be prepared to assist in medical emergencies, which could mean giving first aid or CPR. Keeping an eye on who's coming and going, or monitoring security alarms, will be a regular part of the job.
You'll investigate safety and security violations, report any broken equipment, take away prohibited items, and issue warnings for safety rules. Keeping accurate records of your checks, visitor logs, and equipment issues is important. You might also attend training, use a computer for reports, and maintain files. If you're assigned to handle first aid, CPR, or use an AED, you'll need to get certified within your first few months and keep those certifications current.
To be considered, you'll need to be able to read, write, and speak English. If you're responsible and good at spotting and solving problems, this could be a great fit.
