Job Summary: The Armed Security Officer-Lead assumes leadership responsibilities for the shift when the shift Lieutenant is out. The Lead fulfills all responsibilities of an Armed Security Officer. When the Lieutenant is out, the Lead reports to the Assistant Director / Captain-Patrol or Captain-Gilcrease. Essential Functions (Responsibilities): Performs all duties and responsibilities of an Armed Security Officer. Takes responsibility for administrative operations when the Lieutenant assigned to the shift is out: Performs efficient operations and directs supervision of assigned personnel within their assigned squad. Assumes complete charge of an incident in the absence of a superior officer. Issues and enforces work orders and directives to their assigned personnel in conjunction with the daily operation of their assigned duties. Reviews Security Officers' daily work, i.e., Incident Reports, Daily Activity Reports, etc. and ensures the reports are comprehensive and free of errors. Interprets policies, procedures, ordinances and laws, and applies them to university activities and situations. Ensures all employees under their supervision conduct themselves in a professional manner reflecting favorably upon the department and university. Assists in the development and implementation of department policies and procedures. Assists in the development and implementation of security/traffic control plans for special events occurring on university properties. Assumes responsibility for department levels projects to which assigned, e.g. vehicle maintenance, equipment inventory. Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned. Physical Demands A physically demanding position that requires stamina and strength to work assigned shifts under all environmental conditions, drive a motor vehicle, ride a bicycle, perform foot patrol, or stand for extended periods of time, defend themselves and others in actual physical combat, occasionally lift and move people or heavy objects, climb or jump physical obstacles and run various distances. The Armed Security Officer reports to the Assistant Director / Captain - Patrol or Captain - Gilcrease and is responsible for carrying out basic security functions to ensure safe and effective prevention, response, and recovery from threats to the University of Tulsa students, faculty, staff, and guests. Essential Functions (Responsibilities): Patrol Informs the Lieutenant-Patrol, Armed Security Officer Lead, or supervisor of any unusual situations or circumstances that come to their attention. Patrol assigned areas securing scheduled buildings and ensuring safety of university property. Patrol assigned areas of the university property making inquiries and inspection oriented towards protecting of life and property, preventing crime and accidents. Maintain regular radio contact with the Communication Center reporting any unusual situations and requesting assistance from police or fire. Properly investigate all assigned incidents that occur on university property and document the findings of the investigation on department report forms. Observes and reports any faulty or unsafe equipment and/or conditions. Enforces University safety, parking, and traffic regulations by the issuance of University citations. Provides emergency first aid to injured or ill person(s) and assists in the transportation of these persons when necessary. Admits authorized person(s) into secured buildings, facilities, and rooms during business and non-business hours. Responds to building alarms. Responds to calls for assistance. Assists stranded motorists by jump-starting batteries, changing flat tires, and pushing disabled vehicles. Provides crowd and/or traffic control during scheduled activities and/or emergency situations. Provides basic information, direction, and assistance to university personnel, students, and visitors. Gilcrease Museum o Conducting daily verification of gallery inventories. o Monitoring the museum's CCTV and alarm systems. o Assisting with the daily opening and closing of the museum. Security Makes crucial decisions under stress and is held accountable for the result. De-escalates difficult situations and accompanies unauthorized individuals off university owned and controlled property. Determines when, and under what circumstances, to use non-lethal or deadly force. Defend themselves and others in actual physical combat. Provides security during the transportation of large sums of cash, and/or other valuables. Administrative Investigates all assigned incidents and accurately documents the investigation results into an incident reporting system. Accurately completes all necessary administrative forms and reports. Testifies clearly and truthfully during campus conduct hearings and legal court proceedings. Required to complete all assigned University and department training. Special Considerations May be subjected to bodily harm with the possibility of loss of life.
