Butler/Till is committed to providing pay transparency of our compensation philosophy and ensuring equitable pay practices for our employee owners. The compensation range for this position is $99,000- $138,000 and represents the annual salary range in Rochester, NY. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience.

The Role
As we continue to grow as QuidelOrtho, we are seeking a Scientist 1 will work in a team environment on all phases in support of Assay Development. The Scientist will perform various assignments related to the experimental design and testing of assay performance on the VITROS and other QuidelOrtho products in the laboratory in accordance with cGMP regulations. The Position
* As part of a technical team; create, execute, and understand experimental test designs for the VITROS analyzers to complete testing aimed for the verification and validation of new vitro diagnostic products or processes using established protocols and SOP's.
* Provide technical support by executing test designs on diagnostic instruments to drive accurate test results.
* Maintain analyzer equipment related to the VITROS testing (daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance) and perform necessary calibration, QC, and documentation according to SOPs.
* Maintain accurate records of work performed in accordance with cGMP and the procedures outlined in the Quality System. This includes Design History files, QC, equipment maintenance, and other associated testing documentation.
* Maintain a neat, orderly, and safe workplace and clean work area and analyzer upon test completion.

Qualifications
Required:

SELECTION CRITERIA
A Master's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, or Food Science, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required; PhD is preferred;
5+ years of relevant research and development experience including microbiological and analytical testing methods to access product safety and stability;
Knowledge of and experience with FDA guidelines, regulatory submissions, and challenge studies for food products;
Previous experience with BSL-2 level pathogenic micro-organisms preferred;
Proven track record of innovative research and development projects;
Excellent interpersonal skills; supervisory experience a plus.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Microbiology Research and Development
Develop precise experimental plans, timelines, and budgets for the execution of microbiology research needed to meet the goals, objectives, and vision of Farther Farms;
Develop and implement methodologies to expand in-house analytical capabilities as needed;
Define, design, and coordinate challenge studies to characterize the behavior of various processing parameters in relation to microorganisms of concern;
Interpret and clearly communicate research results and conclusions to internal and external parties;
Oversee and perform routine microbiology equipment checks, conduct growth media promotion, and maintain laboratory culture collection as needed;
Identify relevant external partners to conduct validation studies for processes for various food products, and provide oversight of external labs;
Draft submission reports to be shared with Federal agencies for new processing methodologies;
Lead communication with relevant external parties including regulatory bodies and customers as needed;
Commit to continual improvement by reading and applying the latest scientific literature and methodologies to better the outcomes of the foundational research.
Pilot Plant Scale-Up
Assist the engineering team with ideation and design building of machinery for the scale-up production by highlighting the needs of new and novel food processes and derivative food products;
Collaborate on product and process development to refine and inform the direction of the benchtop product development work by highlighting the process needs to achieve food safety standards;
Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all manufacturing operations, end-products, raw materials, packaging materials, and quality specifications and standards.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to wear all PPE as required by Farther Farms;
Ability to stand, walk, squat, and sit for long periods of time;
Ability to push and lift items up to 25 pounds;
Ability to perform repetitive motions movements with upper extremities.

Your Role:
* Conduct biological surveys, including avian surveys, wetland delineations, reptile and amphibian surveys, bat surveys, and more.
* Support permit applications for renewable energy projects at state and local levels.
* Collaborate with a nationwide network of biologists engaged in cutting-edge wildlife and natural resource work.
* Perform independent data QA/QC as required.
* Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
* Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.

Qualifications:
* Completion of college-level coursework in ornithology, wildlife science, ecology, or general biology.
* 1-3 years of professional experience in field data collection.
* Experience using field technologies, including handheld GPS units, tablets, or similar data collection tools.
* Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience conducting avian surveys for various species in the Eastern U.S.
* Experience conducting rare plant and/or wetland surveys using established protocols.
* Experience conducting wildlife surveys, including reptile, amphibian, or bat surveys for special-status or common species.
* Familiarity with wetland delineation per U.S. Army Corps of Engineers methods in the Northeastern U.S. (preferred but not required).
