Job Description:
During the school year, driver will be on a school route schedule. During the summer there will be trips in school buses or mini coaches as well as motor coach, so the more types of equipment you are able to drive, the more work will be available.
Duties:
* Safely operate school buses on scheduled routes and/or on all types of trips in support of school approved activities, in accordance with Federal, State and Local laws and Samson Tours
* Service and inspect school buses and related equipment as required by Federal, State and Samson Tours
* Maintain control of student passengers to ensure safety and report unsafe acts or conditions which require the attention of any person other than the driver.
* Complete forms, records and reports as required by the state or school policies.
* Successfully complete school bus driver training programs and courses
* Operate and service all school bus equipment and accessories including but not limited to fire extinguishers, highway warning kits, first aid kits, etc.
* Perform required operational safety inspection of the school bus and all related equipment.
* Maintain a clean and orderly school bus. Perform a daily pre-trip and post-trip inspection to include fuel, oil, and coolant and tire inflation.
* Operate all hand and foot controls installed in a school bus as required by School Bus Specifications.
* Communicate appropriately with students, parents and school personnel and able to handle all issues that come with operating a school bus (fights, argument, parents issues, safety etc..)
* Take trips in between routes if any are available, help with last minute trips and work during the busy season.

The Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, shall appoint the Bus Driver. The annual period of service for the Bus Driver shall be 185 days.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Operates school buses safely under all types of weather conditions; Transports students and other authorized persons to and from the assigned education center, event facilities, activity locations, and field trip destinations; controls passenger behavior and maintains safe operations of the assigned bus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Drives designated route according to stop times, stop location, and safely transports students to and from school, field trips and other designated activities
Conducts thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, verifies that the bus has sufficient fuel, and ensures that special equipment and communications devices are in working order (two-way radio, stop arms, on board cameras, external cameras, etc.)
Routinely conducts an inventory of bus emergency and first aid supplies in accordance to established policies and procedures; Immediately reports if devices, supplies, or emergency equipment is inoperable or missing
In the event of an accident, assures that all medical procedures are followed, completes timely accident report(s) in accordance to policy and procedures
Maintains student discipline on the bus and refers serious infractions to appropriate administrator using student discipline form.
Operates school bus in accordance with laws of Georgia and in accordance with the policies prescribed by City Schools of Decatur school system in a safe and proficient manner under all weather conditions
Follows procedures to guarantee that no student is left alone on a bus without adult supervision at any time; Ensures that all children that all students/riders have departed the bus at the end of all bus routes (morning, evening and during field trips an other special trips)
Provides maximum safety for passengers while on the bus and during loading and unloading
Delivers bus to Fleet maintenance facility as directed by a pre-arranged monthly schedule for bus service
Conducts emergency evacuation drills as required by local school system
May be called upon to assist with transportation training for bus aides, bus monitors, teachers, students and volunteers
Communicates effectively and professionally with school staff and the public; maintains a professional appearance in accordance to department dress codes or policies
Demonstrates punctuality and regular attendance; work hours may vary during the school year
Maintains external and internal cleanliness of bus as required for safe comfortable operation
Submit legible accurate reports and time sheets in a timely manner as required by the Transportation Department

Pay Rate: $17/hour
Dates of employment: June 2, 2025 - July 25, 2025
The candidate will drive a DeKalb County school bus as a means of transportation for participants of the DeKalb County Parks and Recreation Department's programs. Candidate is responsible to meet the requirements for drivers as set by the DeKalb County Schools and obey all laws for operation of a school bus. The candidate is under the supervision of the Recreation Center Leader or Program Manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Enforce normal school system and/or state regulations while transporting groups
Ensures that a counselor is sitting at the rear and front of the bus on all group trips
Stay with groups on all trips assigned
Permit no smoking or unsafe conduct on bus
Assist with supervising children at designated sites if not scheduled for a field trip
Assist with delivering supplies and equipment to sites at the beginning of the program as needed
Keep the bus in safe operating condition
Complete record of all trips and turn them in each week upon receipt of your paycheck
Attend staff meetings as scheduled
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of basic motor vehicle and school bus operation; local and state traffic ordinances; school bus safety policies and procedures; local and state roads and highways sufficient to locate specific locations and addresses; vehicle maintenance requirements, records and procedures
Must have reliable transportation
Must have a valid Georgia Class A or B CDL Driver's License
Must be at least 21 years of age or older
Must have legal authorization to work in the United States
Must pass DOT pre-employment physical which includes drug and alcohol screen

JOB SUMMARY
Spend your summer DRIVING adventure! Join the NOC team in providing exceptional guest service to our guests looking for adventure on the river. One of our two Chattahoochee Outposts, located in Sandy Springs, GA is looking to hire a Bus Driver to safely transport our guests to and from the river. This job is not your traditional driving position. Enjoy mountain and river views and the excitement of our guests as they get prepared to experience the Chattahoochee River. Bus Drivers must possess a Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements. Current CPR and First Aid certifications are preferred but not required. Due to the nature of this position, we are looking for both part-time and full-time drivers to join us for the season.
Responsibilities
Transport guests and guides to and/or from river, adhering to all NOC, DOT, state and OSHA laws, policies and regulations
Provide top-notch guest service to all guests, before, after, and during their trip, including answering questions about trip specifics and local information
Daily and pre-trip bus inspections, documenting all inspections and reporting any issues to management
In some cases, responsible for loading, unloading, and securing rafts, kayaks, or other equipment on bus-tops, as qualified
Other tasks, such as driving support vehicles, repair and maintenance of gear or facilities, and assisting other NOC departments, as qualified and as assigned
Qualifications
Required
Valid Class B Commercial Drivers License with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements
Have great communication skills
Have a strong sense of guest service
Be enthusiastic about sharing outdoor activities with NOC guests
Preferred
First Aid/CPR certification
Physical Requirements and Environment
Must be comfortable working and driving in varying weather conditions including, but not limited to (heat, wind, rain, cold)
Must be comfortable driving on winding mountain roads
Must be able to bend, stoop, twist
Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
Must be able to remain focused in a noisy environment
