The EHS Intern will work as part of an inspection or audit team and may support the process by completing various administrative tasks such as filling out job hazard analysis. Responsibilities may vary, please see the list provided below. The EHS Intern position is a temporary summer position, working Monday -Friday, 7:30am -3:30pm. Requirements Duties and Responsibilities * Carries out various projects that will impact and reduce injury rate, cost, and time. * Assist in developing a company safety program. * Helps conduct hazard assessments for processes and equipment. * Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to help protect workers from hazardous working conditions. * Participate in accident investigations to identify causes and corrective actions. * Help conduct company Lock-out Tag-out trainings. * Maintain safety policies and procedures across the company. * Carries out hazardous waste inspections, spill prevention, and control plan inspections. * Aids in the development of the safety risk assessment tools and resources. * Assists with safety promotion efforts. * Participates in monthly safety committee meetings, and processes safety event reports. * Participates in hazardous waste tracking activities. * All other duties as assigned or necessary. Required Education, Training or Experience * Must be a sophomore standing or greater, working towards a degree in a Safety or Environmental related field. * Safety/Environmental experience preferred but is not necessary. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Ability to read measurement tools. * Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. * Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. * Ability to work both on a team and individually. Physical Demands * Ability to lift, bend, push, pull, and move materials up to or exceeding 20 lbs. * Ability to stand or walk an entire shift (can be 8-10 hours). Work Environment Employees must be able to cope with Iowa climates; endure heat and cold conditions in the building. Fast paced workloads and loud noise levels are normal. Paint fumes and exposure to chemicals associated may be present. Personal Protective Equipment as required by OSHA will be provided by the Company.
