Job Description NREL is seeking a full-time Energy Finance Expert for the Project Development and Finance (PD&F) Group in the Accelerated Deployment and Decision Support (ADDS) Center. The mission of the PD&F Group is to partner with clients with ambitious energy goals and support project development, financing, and execution. The PD&F Group aids its clients in making sound investment decisions in clean energy technologies through unbiased strategic advisory, business case assessment, transaction-level support, financing, contracting, and market intelligence. The successful candidate will apply a deep understanding of project development and finance related to energy technologies such as renewable electricity and heat, weatherization and energy efficiency, energy storage, and/or microgrid project financing mechanisms, domestic acquisition regulations, and general energy project development fundamentals for domestic energy projects. Knowledge and experience in the following will support a candidate's successful application: power purchase agreements, energy service contracts, private finance mobilization, low-emission energy and financing development, and net energy metering and billing. The successful candidate will demonstrate advanced understanding and application of project management principles, concepts, practices, and standards. The candidate should have experience engaging with communities. The candidate will support and guide projects throughout the project implementation process, with a focus on the procurement contracting and financing. Knowledge of domestic tax credits and U.S. tax law, and financing incentives, markets, and policies will be important for success in this position. The candidate will also identify and respond directly to procurement and technical assistance needs and will coordinate with the appropriate technical resources within the lab. We use a large library of human lung samples which we continue to collect to understand the location and programming of immune cells in different regions of the lungs. We perform sterile cell culture experiments with primary human and mouse macrophages. We also expose mice to cigarette smoking and e-cigarette vapor (using a brand-new vaping exposure machine), to study the short-term effects these substances have on defense from bacteria like S. pneumonia, which we also grow in the lab. Finally, we study macrophages donated by patients with specific genetic predispositions to smoking-induced lung diseases to understand how their cells function differently.br/ br/ Training on specific techniques used in the laboratory will be provided, though prior experience with techniques including sterile cell culture, flow cytometry, PCR, western blotting, and/or bacterial culture are preferred. Job Description A postdoctoral position is available in NREL's Materials, Chemical and Computational Science Directorate on research efforts in the fabrication, scale-up, and durability of organic photovoltaic modules. The initial appointment is for 1 year with possible renewal up to three years. This position will focus on durability and packaging of organic solar cells and modules. Responsibilities will include developing methods for packaging, conducting accelerated stress tests on samples and performing post-mortem root-cause analysis to understand the mechanisms for failure. A background in analytical chemistry and materials characterization techniques (HPLC, NMR, SEM, XPS, XRD etc.) as well as device testing such as EQE and IV is important. Some background in reliability testing of PV devices is desirable but not required. The inter-disciplinary reserach portfolio requires a candidate who can interface with researchers of different disciplines and learn topics outside their area of expertise. Candidates will be expected to communicate their results to internal stakeholders and in more traditional forums such as peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations. In general, candidates should have a demonstrated track record of success in technical activities associated with fabrication of organic photovoltaic devices and characterization using a multitude of coating techniques beyond spin-coating, with emphasis on blade, bar, gravure, and slot-die. The candidate will be required to work closely with the Environment, Health, & Safety team to follow safe work procedures, as well as to handle waste properly and keep a clean, well-organized work space, with a potential expectation to serve as a Designated Area Representative in the lab space associated with this work . Additional Required Qualifications Experience processing of organic semiconductor thin films and all steps required to produce quality functional devices.
