Responsibilities + Conduct environmental monitoring of classified areas using active/passive air sampling methods and RODAC/swab surface sampling methods for bacteria and fungi detection. + Utilize CliMet air sampling methods for total particulates detection and trend this data to identify anomalies and characterize microflora. + Test city water, pre-treat water, clean steam, and Water for Injection for microbial count and endotoxins presence. + Test nitrogen and process air for microbial count and total particulates. + Identify microorganisms using classical microbiological methods. + Perform validation activities such as biological indicator recovery, bioburden rinse/swab, endotoxin rinse, and endotoxin challenge vial testing. + Analyze data and enter results into software systems like Microbiology Information Management Systems (MIMS). + Document test results and conclusions in a GMP-compliant manner and ensure test forms are complete before submission for approval. + Adhere to all company safety, health, and environmental policies, procedures, and directives. + Conduct all laboratory activities safely by using MSDS to establish chemical hazards, observing appropriate laboratory procedures, and reporting all incidents that could threaten laboratory personnel safety.     THE OPPORTUNITY The University of Alabama at Birmingham* ( UAB ) Heersink School of Medicine (Heersink SOM ) * and the UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center ( UCDC ) ** are continuing the recruitment of up to 10 investigators for a major strategic portfolio increase across basic, translational, clinical, and population science research efforts in diabetes. Recruitment is for tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure-earning faculty applicants with an MD, PhD or MD/PhD at all ranks and includes academic appointment in one or more of 27 academic departments across the Heersink SOM , many of which rank in the top 10 nationally in NIH funding. Successful candidates will join half a dozen recently recruited faculty as well as the rest of the 200 UCDC faculty members. All applications will be considered, but priority will be given to those with the following focus areas in diabetes and metabolism research: investigator-initiated clinical trials adult or pediatric longitudinal diabetes studies immunology of diabetes single-cell islet biology adipocyte biology epigenetics precision diabetes bioinformatics & clinical informatics population health research in diabetes THE INSTITUTION Successful applicants will join one of the strongest diverse diabetes environments in the country. The UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center has more than 200 faculty members representing 10 UAB schools and many departments and spanning the full range of biomedical diabetes research. It also has one of only 18 nationally funded Diabetes Research Center ( DRC ) awards. In addition, UAB has numerous other centers and institutes that are highly relevant to diabetes research and to the specific areas of interest including the Nutrition Obesity Research Center ( NORC ), Center for Exercise Medicine, Center for Free Radical Biology, Microbiome Center, Integrative Center for Aging Research, Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Center ( MHRC ), Center for Outcomes and Effectiveness Research and Education ( COERE ), Nephrology Research and Training Center ( NRTC ), NIH Center for Clinical and Translational Science ( CCTS ), Informatics Institute, and the Hugh Kaul Precision Medicine Institute. Moreover, both adult and pediatric diabetes clinics at UAB are very active, with a high volume of new type 1 and type 2 diabetes cases and serve a highly diverse patient population coming from a large catchment area. UAB has been named the Best Large Employer by Forbes in 2021.
