QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering and 1 year of relevant industry experience preferred. Experience with laboratory equipment use and procedures with a respect for safety. Working knowledge of thermoplastic compounds, testing, processing and development. Knowledge of sealants, adhesives, and coatings testing and formulating is preferred. Prior experience with bitumen based technology is a plus. Demonstrated aptitude for problem-solving; ability to determine solutions for customers. Excellent communication and organizational skills. The ability to learn new concepts/procedures quickly. Adherence to health and safety regulations (e.g. use of protective gear).
Must be results-orientated and able to work both independently and within a team environment. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite applications.

Job Description: JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test result;
2. Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens;

POSITION OBJECTIVE
Working under limited supervision, coordinate research work in medical and related technical areas. The Research Assistant 3 will plan and carry out collection of data for a research project focusing on self- management for people with Type 1 Diabetes. This research will be conducted in accordance with an IRB-approved research protocol at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, including its main campus, community locations, and potentially other clinics in the Cleveland area. The research assistant will provide input on the overall study direction and address key data collection issues in collaboration with the research team. Additionally, this position will be responsible for tracking participants to ensure the timely collection of follow-up interviews. The Research Associate will be skilled in at least one of the following domains, and ideally multiple: preclinical behavioral work, electrophysiology, computational modeling, clinical work, early-stage product development processes to support translational efforts. The Research Associate will be required to use laser and light equipment in the lab, and to fulfill training requirements for safe use of the same. The Research Associate will keep the PI informed of progress on projects and provide recommendations on experimental design. The Research Associate will also present data and findings at lab and scientific meetings, seminars, etc., prepare manuscripts, and contribute preliminary data for grant proposals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Plan and execute engineering activities and research experiments designed by the principal investigator and/or the Research Associate. 2. Independently author research projects. Assemble data and make publication-quality figures from analyzed data. Present data and findings at laboratory meetings and scientific meetings, seminars, etc. Prepare manuscripts, and contribute preliminary data for grant proposals. (20%)
3. Assist the PI in and independently develop new techniques and protocols, including drafting of IACUC protocols, and clinical protocols. Train lab members on new techniques. (10%)
4. Mentor and train lab staff and graduate students; oversee research work and ensure pro jects are being completed according to the research plan. This will involve teaching other members of the lab techniques and scientific discovery methods, including students and post-docs. Assist and teach both established and new research techniques to other lab members to facilitate their experiments. Coordinate trainings for lab members with the EHS and others, as needed. (5%)

They will work closely with lab members including the principal investigator, research associates, post-docs and other research assistants, and learn to design, perform, and analyze experiments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Perform research work in medical and related technical areas involves use of lab skills. Process human and animal samples for histological and biochemical studies. Learn to dissect tissues of selective brain regions and prepare tissue sections, perform histochemical and immunohistochemical experiments. Assist with mouse colony maintenance. Generate, maintain, and analyze tissue culture cell lines for experimental purposes. (30%)
2. Conduct analysis of samples. from cultured cell samples. Become proficient in microscopy and digital image acquisition. This includes light microscopy, fluorescent microscopy, and confocal microscopy. Perform gel electrophoresis and Western blotting. Perform PCR to assist with genotyping of mouse models. (25%)
3. Record results for a particular experiment or closely related series of experiments. Prepare basic figures using PowerPoint for describing and presenting results to PI. Use Excel and other statistical software to quantify results. Learn to use Western blot image analysis software. Develop skills in other software- Image J, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator. (20%)
4. Maintain records of experiments. Maintain clear and accurate records in lab book, and use Box or lab server as backup. (10%)
5. Maintain test equipment utilized in experiments. Perform routine lab maintenance, including maintaining organization of stockroom, refrigerators and freezers, cleaning equipment and lab ware; dispose of biohazardous waste. (10%)
6. Assist with general lab duties, such as helping to prepare, order laboratory supplies, complete, and update annual lab safety training records. Assist lab members with shipping and receiving samples. Run autoclave as needed for reagent sterilization and waste decontamination. Attend weekly lab meetings (currently remote via Zoom). (5%)

Department: Daily contact with supervisor and other lab personnel to discuss research and maintain workflow.
University: Occasional contact with other labs/departments to share information.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no direct supervision of staff employees.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in science and 0 to 1 year of experience or Associate's degree in an approved biotechnology program and 0 to 2 years of experience required.

1. Has knowledge of basic laboratory skills including pipetting, basic chemistry lab techniques including weighing using analytical balance, preparing solutions, pH meter usage.
2. Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively within a team (must be highly motivated, responsible, dependable, and a self-starter).

4. Ability to operate routine laboratory equipment: weighing balances, pipets, knowledge of use of spectrophotometer.

WORKING CONDITIONS
General laboratory environment. The employee will be exposed to animal tissues, bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, fumes, dust, UV light. The employee will perform repetitive motion. The employee will need to lift up to 24 lbs. Personal protective equipment is provided and lab coat is required to be worn in the lab. Gloves, goggles and face shields are provided.

The Research and Development Scientist develop polymer-based materials for thermal and EMI management solutions under direction of senior technologist. This position requires background in chemistry, polymer science, or polymer composites, and a strong understanding of materials and structure-property relationships.
Your Key Responsibilities:
* Use solid scientific principles to plan and conduct lab experiments, prepare samples, characterize materials and understand composition and property relationships.
* Develop, formulate, and characterize new technically advanced materials per product development roadmap with guidance by senior level scientists.
* Update existing material formulations as needed based on required raw material substitutions or necessary property enhancements
* Generate technical reports and project progress reports as requested.
* Interface with process engineer for scale up experiments and/or process development or improvements.
Qualification:
* Master's degree in polymer science, materials science, or chemistry.
* 2-5 years' experience in polymer composites/materials development.
* Experience and knowledge with polymer structure, polymer chemistry, polymer composites, rheology control, instruments.
* Chemistry, polymer and materials characterization techniques such as TGA, DSC, rheometer, FTIR, SEM, etc.
* Hands on experience with formulating, polymer-filler system is preferred.
* Experience with silicone and thermoplastics is a plus.
* Experience with complex fluids, structure fluids is a plus.
* Ability to work well in Team environment.
* Highly motivated with hands-on approach to laboratory work.
