Summary of Position
Due to the dynamic nature of the Sanctuary, this position is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in working in the environmental education field to build foundational skills, experiences, and knowledge. Seasonality of tourism in the area leads to diversity in the job depending on the time of year. The Education Assistant will have a focus on leading tours, providing Keeper Talks to the public and assisting with events in the summer, and a focus on development and outreach during the remainder of the year. The position will support the Education Manager in the day-to-day tasks and operations of the Education Department.
Duties and Responsibilities
● Guide tours for schools/educational groups
● Guide professional private tours for tourists.
● Assist with scheduling of tours and processing associated documentation and data.
● Help with summer programs including camps, and Boys and Girls Club programs.
● Conduct Keeper Talks for visitors twice a day on weekends (weekend work is required)
● Assist with educational events hosted by the Sanctuary.
● Assist with scheduled Animal Encounters for visitors.
● Write grant proposals for the education department under the direction of the Executive Director
● Assist the Executive Director with other educational development tasks as needed.
● Create awareness and interest in YWS' educational resources among schools and other organizations that could benefit from participation. This may include reaching out to, building connections with, and distributing resources on behalf of the Sanctuary.
● Deliver outreach programs to outside organizations.
● Help maintain the social media accounts, including developing and disseminating engaging educational content, for a steady flow of informative content on traditional and social media. This would include Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, , and Sanctuary podcasts. The position may assist with newsletter content under the direction of the Education Manager and the Executive Director.
● Design and create visually engaging promotional materials using Canva or other graphic design tools to advertise events and educational programs effectively. This involves creating flyers, social media posts, and other marketing collateral to enhance the Sanctuary's visibility and outreach efforts.
● Assist with the care and maintenance of ambassador animals, including our two tiger salamanders, ensuring their well-being and proper handling during educational encounters. This includes feeding, habitat upkeep, and monitoring their health and behavior.
● Other duties as assigned by the Education Manager or Executive Director as needed. Cross-training and career development opportunities to enhance this position.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES:
* Graduate from an accredited registered nursing program

* Ability to make home visits and provide nursing care in the home environment
* Ability to complete necessary documentation appropriately, legibly and timely

$15.25/hour Must have 1 year of assisted living or skilled nursing care experience! ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assists residents with bathing functions according to resident service plan and as directed (i.e. Showerbath and whirlpools)
Assists residents with daily dental and couth care (i.e. brushing teeth/dentures, oral hygiene, special mouth care, etc. as needed)
Assists residents with undressing/dressing as necessary
Assists residents with hair care functions (i.e. Combing, brushing, shampooing, etc.)
Assists residents with nail care (i.e. Clipping, trimming and cleaning the finger/toenails)
Assists residents with shaving (female residents - facial hair, under arms, legs, etc. as instructed. Male residents - facial hair.)
Position residents in correct and comfortable positions for pressure relief.
Assists residents with bowel and bladder functions. (i.e. Take to bathroom, offer portable commode, change Prevails, etc.)
Assists residents in preparing for social programs, activities, and appointments (i.e. Church, parties, visitors, doctor's appointments, etc.)
Assists residents with lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transporting residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, and wheelchairs. Assists residents to walk with or without self-help devices as instructed.
Answers resident calls promptly.
Assists with the care of the dying resident, maintaining hope, dignity and love for the resident at all times.
Provide post-mortem care as instructed.
Changes soiled linen and bedding.
Disposes of soiled or contaminated items in accordance with facility policy on blood borne pathogens.
Responsibilities:
Follows policy and procedures on annual TB Testing.
Follows policy and procedures on annual influenza vaccinations.
Attends all mandatory in-services.
Attends and participates in scheduled training and educational classes to maintain current certification in accord with the State of Montana.
Performs other duties as assigned by Nurse Managers or person in charge of area where work is being done.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or GED preferred. Prior experience in a human service or health care setting preferred. Must possess a current Montana State Nurses Aide Certification, or have completed the SJLM C.N.A course and will obtain certification within 120 days of class completion.
