Under general supervision of the Facilities Manager, this position is responsible for performing custodial duties in an assigned area, municipal buildings, offices and other associated facilities, in order to maintain the premises in a clean, safe, and orderly condition. Operates a variety of cleaning equipment and utilizes handheld tools. This position will initially work at the Community Center and when The Well (new Hilliard Community Center) opens, will work out of that building.
Normal working hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00AM - 4:30PM.
Essential Functions of Work
Operates a variety of specialized mechanical and/or electronic equipment utilized to clean offices and other areas of municipal buildings and associated grounds i.e., floor cleaning equipment such as vacuums, auto scrubbers and buffers; power sprayers; leaf and snow blowers.
Maintains equipment and ensures equipment is in good operating order through regular inspections.
Conducts inventory of supplies and material and informs supervisor of any supply needs.
Performs cleaning of buildings and associated grounds that includes activities such as cleaning and sanitizing restroom areas sinks, urinals, toilets, walls, mirrors, and partitions; maintaining supplies in restrooms such as filling soap and paper dispensers; sweeping, waxing floors; dusting and cleaning furniture and upholstery; washing walls, windows, and doors; picking up litter, trash and recycling; and emptying waste/recycling receptacles.
Sets up and tears down meeting and class rooms; transports equipment and supplies to/from work areas.
Moves office furniture, tables, chairs, voting machines, and other equipment as necessary.
Clears sidewalks and entrances of snow, ice, leaves and debris.
Ensures proper utilization of safety precautions, including proper barricades and signage when cleaning floors; knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Must continuously and consistently demonstrate the initiative and responsibility to work in an efficient and productive manner with or without direct supervision.

Performs manual work in the cleaning of county buildings and facilities. The safe operation of a vehicle is required to travel from one building to the next. Classification Summary

General Duty Statement:
Provide a clean and safe environment for students, staff, and community. Responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and minor maintenance tasks in school buildings and property. Perform general custodial duties- i.e. emptying trash, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, and waxing (when applicable). Custodians will also be responsible for set up and tear down of school and non-school events, assisting wherever needed during such events. Custodians must be able to work collaboratively with other team members, as well as, independently in their assigned areas. Essential Job Functions:

Will be required to dust mop, damp mop, wet mop, high dust, buff floors, vacuum, collect trash, spot clean or replenish supplies, in order to accomplish the cleaning responsibilities inherent with this position.
May be required to shampoo carpets, strip and refinish floors.
May be required to move furniture, equipment, arrange rooms, or set-up rooms for meetings. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Mix and use chemicals per instruction.
Operate floor buffers, scrubbers, and all other required equipment.
Assists with securing district facilities at night and after events.
Remove snow from sidewalks, entrances, etc.
Must become familiar with campus and departmental safety and security.
Work required shifts.
Maintain confidentiality of all student, educator, and administration interactions.
Demonstrate knowledge of understanding of the District's Custodial Maintenance Handbook.
Must become familiar with and demonstrate an understanding of departmental, district, and Board of Education Policies.
Demonstrates knowledge of safe chemical protocol provided by Chillicothe R-II.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must pass CPR and Defibrillator training provided by the school. The employee should be conscientious, dependable, prompt, be in good health, able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and have good personal hygiene. Standing, bending, squatting, reaching, stooping, pulling, and pushing will be required. Cleaning of blood, human waste and other offensive items and odors are occasionally required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Minimal education is required. Must have ability to follow oral, visual and written instructions. One year experience preferred. Institutional experience is desirable.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board of Education Policy. Demonstrate an understanding of the District's Custodial Maintenance Handbook.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve - Month employee with wages to be determined by the Board of Education. Paid holidays and vacation as set by the Board of Education, and communicated by the Assistant Superintendent.

Responsibilities
Help ensure the basic hygiene to maintain a safe environment for employees and customers.
Assist in the up-keep and cleanliness of all buildings, inside and out.
Adhere to OSHA building and safety requirements.
Will perform snow removal of sidewalks and the parking areas
Qualifications
Must have a valid driver's license and an insurable driving record
Must have knowledge of cleaning equipment and facility upkeep
Must have the ability to exercise judgment, make decisions and respond to cleaning emergencies and staff requests within a reasonable time period.
Ability to plan and organize work to achieve desired results
Be comfortable working in external and internal work environments to include adverse or extreme weather conditions.
Must be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunctions with day to day activities. Projects may require working under time constraints to meet deadlines, extended ours and on occasion, weekends.
