The Wyoming State Penitentiary (WSP) is a high custody facility for the general population and administrative segregation housing. This position is essential for maintaining the institution's safety and security and is considered a Law Enforcement position receiving the 20-year retirement and state benefits package. This is an entry-level position, and career/growth opportunities are available. *ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: *The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level. *To maintain institutional safety standards, the position requires the following:* * Enforcement of rules and regulations. * Responding to post orders of varied assigned posts. * Supervising inmates in performing various jobs; modeling appropriate, pro-social behavior. * Assisting in a variety of searches, including checking for contraband items. * Observing daily inmate living, programming, work areas, and the perimeter fence line, reporting security violations. * Conducting daily scheduled counts of inmates. * Assuming duties of housing control centers, central control centers, and inmate living areas monitoring inmate movements. * Becoming familiar with inmate names and characteristics for easier identification of inmate movements and infractions. * Assisting in restraining unruly inmates, utilizing the minimum amount of force required. * Assisting in transporting inmates within and off institution boundaries, including inter- and intra-state predetermined destinations. * Assisting in processing newly incarcerated inmates or the appropriate out processing of released inmates. * Attending required training to perform duties at an acceptable level. * Commitment to public safety and high correctional standards, as well as a safe, supportive working environment for our employees.
