Typical Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the skills and abilities would be:
Education
Associate's degree in park management, police science or related field. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred in outdoor recreation, natural resource management or related field. Work experience may be substituted for education requirements.
Experience
Three seasons (minimum 90 days each) in park operations, park security and/or emergency response experience.

DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Assist in the development and delivery of watershed, conservation and stewardship interpretive programs on-site as well as community based education programs to individuals, schools and other groups.
* Perform proactive patrol, surveillance and intervention function at varied hours/days (including holidays) in varied weather conditions, with regard to activities and incidents on Wachusett and Sudbury Reservoirs' lands and water by foot, snowshoe, x-country ski, on-road, off-road and snow vehicle and by boat.
* Assist in the development of displays, signs, literature, multi-media presentations and other materials for both internal as well as public education.
* Record and maintain data to include: education programs records, patrol logs, visitor contacts, visitor surveys and incidents such as public health and safety, vandalism, water quality degradation and unlawful and potentially harmful acts to persons and/or property.
* Supervise employees of lower grades and volunteer, in the performance of their Ranger duties.
* Perform search and rescue (SAR), first aid and other emergency response functions in accordance with agency policy.
* Participate in training and development programs as directed.
* Assist as needed in the prevention, suppression and control of forest fires on DWSP.

RV Rangers assist with all site set-ups for arriving and departing guests. They are responsible for escorting arrivals to their site after normal business hours, communicating all issues and concerns to the RV Resort Manager, and monitoring the pool(s) for unregistered guests. Rangers provide excellent customer service to prospective and current guests and residents in the resort at all times.
JOB DUTIES
Leads RVs to sites, ensuring to locate them properly within the individual site areas. Assists guests with site set-up as needed
Checks transient sites daily for departures. Removes trash from recently vacated transient sites
Checks all sites for issues or problems (i.e. water, sewer, hornets, etc.). Reports all maintenance issues and concerns to RV Resort Manager and/or maintenance
Inspects tied down RVs, park models, and manufactured homes for cleanliness, rust, damage and other problems prior to permitting their sale
Completes various surveys of tied down units as required by main office
Oversees the sales of sewer donuts and electrical adapters, if applicable
Completes site measurements as requested
Delivers special packages and/or one-day mail to appropriate sites
Assists with coverage of the main gate when needed
Routinely checks swimming pool(s) for unregistered guests, if applicable
Tags vehicles for removal by owner at unrented transient sites
Follows safety procedures while performing duties
Other duties as assigned
Handles guest and resident questions and complaints directly or refers them to the appropriate department
Provides guests with accessibility by patrolling the resort frequently and assisting them when needed
Treats sites, both manufactured home and RV, for fire ant infestation as requested and as a normal procedure when spotting units on-site

About This Position

The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation is seeking Park Rangers to patrol facilities to promote compliance with rules and regulations, protect natural and park resources, and enhance visitor experience through providing a presence and being available for visitor information; coordinate with law enforcement officials for appropriate regulatory action; and perform related work as required.
Park Rangers normally work a forty-hour week (which includes nights, weekends, and holidays). April-early June will be Monday-Friday day shift. Mid June to August will require include week-end days and may include some evening shifts. Uniforms and training are provided; park housing is not.
Successful candidates must attend the Seasonal Ranger Academy.
Duties:
· Conducts patrols, either in a vehicle, on a bicycle or on foot, effectively utilizing techniques and available resources, to enforce applicable laws and regulations, provide visitor services, assess facility resources, assist visitors with first aid, and other public services as required.
· Perform the crossing of school-aged pedestrians on DCR roadways twice daily in accordance with the school's schedule.
· Maintain an inventory of and maintain the condition of issued equipment.
· Complete Bureau records, reports, files, and logs.
· Attend seminars, workshops, training sessions, etc., in order to maintain proficiencies.
· Participates in search and rescue operations in accordance with agency policy.
· Provide informal and, occasionally, formal information/educational programs, demonstrations, and materials for schools and civic groups as requires, in areas such as Ranger programs, park activities and services, outdoor skills, natural and cultural history and search and rescue.
· Respond and assist park staff at major incidents, assist at special events, and occasionally assist at statewide incidents or functions.

What You'll Do:
The Seasonal Ranger is a part-time position at Monument Mountain and is primarily responsible for greeting and educating visitors, enforcing parking fees and providing site-related materials. The Ranger may also be responsible for leading occasional guided walks and programs and assisting with special events. Incumbent also performs general cleaning and/or maintenance of the ranger station, trails, and parking lots. This position will begin in May and run through Labor Day weekend, at around 28 hours per week, Thurs-Sun.
Specifically, you'll:
Staff the entrance station and greet visitors in a welcoming manner
Assist visitors with the parking kiosk
Answer questions about The Trustees of Reservations and the history, geology and ecology of the properties
Educate visitors about The Trustees mission and encourage them to become active members
Direct visitors to additional Trustees properties in the Southern Berkshires
Direct visitors to membership brochures, distribute flyers to the public and on bulletin boards
Enforce rules and regulations of assigned properties
Ability to work in all weather conditions including heat and rain
Confidence to be calm and articulate when confronted by uncooperative visitors and when handling emergencies
Perform tasks safely and in accordance with The Trustees' safety manual
Behave in a professional manner with their colleagues, property visitors and volunteers

Job Summary:
Junior Rangers Camp Leaders are responsible for ensuring a fun and positive learning environment for TK and Junior Rangers campers and will support clubs of up to 10 participants. Junior Rangers Camp Leaders have the opportunity to grow, connect, play and have the greatest impact on their camper's.summer experience. Junior Rangers Camp Leaders are enthusiastic, and love to learn and work with young people in an outdoor, summer setting! Other support members of the team include a camp coordinator, who oversees the program and a community liaison who supports the camp coordinator. Park Rangers will be paid their hourly rate while in the Academy. Full-time Ranger classifications are required to be deputized as a Peace Officer and as such, must pass all parts of the Department approved Academy requirements (Non deputized candidates will also be required to attend and pass the department approved academy). Failure to do so will result in termination of the position. After successfully completing the Department approved academy, recruit Rangers will be placed in an approximately 12 week Field Training Program and must receive a meets standards or higher to complete the program. Failure to do so will result in termination of the position and from the City.

Physical Agility:
Department approved pre-employment Physical Agility Test for law enforcement (WSTB). Pass or Fail. The WSTB includes an obstacle course, body drag, fence climb with sprint and run. Reading and Writing:
1. PELLETB: Complete the California POST Reading & Writing Test (PELLETB). Pass Point is a T-Score total of 50 or higher. Results are valid for three years. For more information or to register go to: ********************************
2. National Testing Network (NTN): Complete the National Testing Network Test (NTN). Pass Point scores are 65% Video, 70% Reading, and 70% Writing. Nationwide classroom and/or virtual exams available. Results are valid for three years. NTN will forward exam results to the City of San José. **All candidates must submit proof of a passing the WSTB AND PelletB or NTN exam result during the background check process following the interviews. Other issues that may affect an applicant's suitability for a public safety position with the City of San José is based upon the Department's hiring standards. Successful candidates may enter the final selection process and may be given a conditional offer of employment. The finals election process will include the following: written and oral psychological screening for full-time candidates and a medical exam (completed by the City's physician) for all candidates.
