Cons of working at Publix

Employees can't afford to shop at Publix. Employees are made out to be the "villan" when customers behave badly - the motto is "treat customers like royalty" no matter the situation.

At the moment none - they cut long term employees hourly schedule so the employees don't get their perks such as PTO, Profit sharing, etc.

What do you like best about Publix's CEO and the leadership team?

Not much - they treat hourly employees live peasants/serfs.

How would you improve Publix's culture?

Hire managers with college degrees and management skills.

How did you prepare for the Publix interview?

My initial interview lasted about 10 minutes - I ended up calling corporate about the interview procedure - they called store manager who stated he was too busy that day to conduct a thorough interview. I got a 2nd interview with the CS manager and was hired. For the first 3 years my experience went downhill due to the store manager's micromanagement but I stuck it out to my 5th year - can't wait to get out of there. BTW I was 69 years old when hired - they don't respect older employees.

What's the diversity at Publix like?

There is no diversity.

What brings you the most joy at Publix?

Leaving at the end of my shift.

How does your compensation at Publix compare to the industry average?

Publix nickels and dimes hourly employees.

Great benefits and room to move up unfortunately management were tending to favorites and didn't appreciate fresh and new innovative ideas.

You were often told what to do without a thorough explanation of the processes! Very little follow through.

What do you like best about Publix's CEO and the leadership team?

They kept in communication with the employees.

How would you improve Publix's culture?

Having a better sense of team morale together.....management often excluded themselves from the team always talking and "figuring" something out .....I would work with my employees create a sense of team spirit and commrodery from the top down!

How did you prepare for the Publix interview?

First I tell myself to just be myself ....I will also study the company I'm interviewing with like the company's mission statement and the overall company's financial status as well....and what their plans are for further development.

How does your compensation at Publix compare to the industry average?

It wasn't too bad....I made 22.80/hr as a Team Supervisor.

What's the diversity at Publix like?

Pretty good.

What brings you the most joy at Publix?

Developing new associates and watch them climb the ladder knowing you helped instill work ethic and proper training in them this is key to a company's success.

I would say It's good

Getting to see my fellow coworkers/my friends who work at my store as well and getting to learn something new every day.

In my experience, the cons of working at Publix are the long hours and having a difficult time trying to find friends while working.

How would you improve Publix's culture?

I would improve Publix by showing the future employer the whole layout of the store and where everything is and what is in each aisle. Make sure they feel like they can navigate the store well.

My mom had set up the interview for me, but I was honest with my answers and gave them good deep answers. Not just a yes or no to their questions.
