JOB TITLE: Sr. Engineer - Project and Automation
DEPARTMENT: Operations
REPORTS TO: Head of Operations
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
In this role you will be the technical lead on in-house design projects and project manager on most outsourced projects to design build, and commission equipment to support improvements in R&D, Operations, and/or Logistics. While there will be occasional support on existing process and commercial equipment the primary focus will be on improvements, automation, and incorporation of additional technology.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the planning and implementation of technical projects: Ensure projects are completed according to outlined objectives.
Develop detailed project plans: Track progress and ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
Coordinate resources: Manage internal resources and third parties/vendors as needed for project execution.
Manage changes: Handle changes to project scope, schedule, and costs using appropriate verification techniques.
Perform risk management: Minimize project risks, noting input to and from management regarding the overall business climate.
Measure project performance: Use appropriate systems, tools, and techniques.
Report and escalate issues: Communicate effectively with management as needed.
Maintain project documentation: Ensure comprehensive project records.
Provide technical guidance: Support the project team with technical expertise.
Conduct post-project evaluation: Identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.

EDUCATION:
Minimum B.S. degree in Engineering. M.S. Preferred.
EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
Minimum of 10 years of experience managing projects, designing equipment, and implementing improvements in a manufacturing setting.

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
The successful candidate should possess the following requirements:
BSME or BSEE in mechanical or electrical engineering with 5-8 years' experience in manufacturing operations.
Project Management certified (Strong project leadership and document management skills).
Strong familiarity with CNC and other precision machining (.0127 mm tolerances or better).
Knowledge of engineering principles and theories and their application to pursue complex projects using precision metrology equipment (CMM, Vision Inspection, GD&T)
Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and computer skills.
Experience in PLC, HMI controls and SPC software is desirable, as is a working knowledge of the ISO 9000 standard.
Understanding in generating PFMEA's, DOEs, process sheets, control plans and DFM as well as creating machine specifications, purchases, runoffs, installs and the ability to launch product into production. Ability to evaluate and develop process input and output controls to measure and improve Cpk.
Experience in manufacturing under the philosophy of lean manufacturing is highly desirable; a Green or Black Belt is a plus.
Working knowledge of the AutoCAD family of software and Inventor or Solidworks is a plus.
Working knowledge of CAM software IE: NX-CAM, MasterCam and Esprit is a plus.
Working knowledge of SAP (ERP/MRP) Business One enterprise resource planning is a plus.
Experience in a plating operation would be a plus.
