The Principal Engineer, Molding & Extrusion will report to the Associate Director, Molding & Extrusion and will be responsible for the design, development, and commercialization of processes and equipment for all new Molded/Extruded products in Avanos' portfolio. They will work with project teams and program managers to create/refine product and process specifications through innovative and robust Tooling/processing solutions. They will be the subject matter expert (SME) for Molded/Extruded process solutions and innovations. This position is a key member of a critical M&E team that supports all business units within Avanos.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide technical leadership of new product Tooling/process development through the design and development of manufacturing processes and tooling that are consistent with high process capability and low product costs
Serve as process expert on any given project to support Avanos' M&E new product development efforts
Work with vendors and key external suppliers to develop process specifications and arrange equipment, parts and material purchases
Create and maintain accurate documentation of tool drawings, design concepts, and concepts in accordance with R&D and QA functions
Act as a mentor to junior engineers within the Avanos organization
Research and purchase new manufacturing technology, work in collaboration with the local engineering department to improve the production capability and functionality.
Implement the transition of new technology to ensure production continues without delay
Estimate equipment costs and development times as inputs to new product development schedules and budgets
Estimate production cycle times and relative costs to provide data for operational decisions
Ensure organization and resources are aligned with business strategies. Manage internal and external networks to implement or champion process development initiatives, programs and strategies that positively impact program execution and revenue growth.
Salary Range:
The anticipated average base pay range for this position is $107,681-$179,432. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the base posted.
Your qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Chemical Engineering or similar
10+ years of experience in variety of technical and/or operational assignments within an Operations and/or R&D medical device environment
Strong experience using manufacturing analysis tools, including but not limited to Designs of Experiments, Design for Six Sigma, Process Capability studies, etc.
Experience with authoring and reviewing process validation protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ), execution and data analysis
Experience performing design transfers of new products from initial concept through launch
Experience developing and leveraging relationships with external suppliers
Proven collaboration with cross-functional/multi-disciplinary teams. Results oriented.
Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills
Solid knowledge of engineering principles, scientific analysis, and project management
Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to prioritize multiple projects across several locations
Willing to travel up to 50%
Preferred:
Experience in medical device manufacturing including but not limited to Injection Molding, LSR Molding, Extrusion, vision systems, leak testing equipment, machining, metal working
