Scheduled Hours 37.5 The videographer/photographer is responsible for creating compelling photos and videos that tell the story of the School of Public Health, the first new school at WashU in 100 years. This driven, talented, creative and collaborative professional understands image-making as a means to tell vivid stories, depicting the value and interdisciplinarity of this new school; its diverse array of faculty representing many areas of public health; and the talents and promise of its students. Chief among this employee's responsibilities will be to produce eye-catching images - photographs and videos - for the school's highly visual website and publications. As the school grows, so too will opportunities to produce storytelling videos and photo packages for the website, social media channels, student-focused avenues and other audiences. The videographer/photographer will work closely with the communications director and other members of the school's communications team and admissions team in determining the school's visual needs.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
* Produce, shoot, edit and help conceptualize high-quality digital videos that support the School of Public Health's strategic priorities. Videos will stand alone (from detailed feature stories, to regular series of one-on-one discussions about research) or complement online news, features and other communications produced by school staff.
* Develop and complete special video projects to support the School of Public Health's aim to educate about public health via storytelling; to meet the school's strategic priorities; and to highlight major events and promote faculty/student initiatives.
* Plan and execute photography on deadline, per assignments from the communications team. Meet regularly with communications, admissions and other school leaders and faculty to plan photography. Scout feature image ideas and propose new ways to tell stories visually.
* Schedule and take single-location portraits of faculty members and school leaders as they join the school so these can be shared in a cohesive, timely manner on the school website.
* Photograph and/or videotape school events, from addresses, to community-focused work, to student projects and other events, for use on website and to share with other university channels, including the university's marketing and communications and Advancement team for WashU-created videos or news outlets.
* Work with graphic designer and web team to conceptualize and produce high-quality graphics, charts, maps and other visual elements to enhance multimedia projects for the school.
* Lead project to determine how and where the school will store and archive videos and photos. This will involve working with partners in university marketing and communications to determine what can be done on the university and the school levels.
* Edit images, apply digital post-production techniques and prepare photos and video for digital and print publication. Note accurate information about the who, what, when and where of each photo and video assignment for identification purposes. Enter images and text data into the digital asset management system, when one is determined.
* Advance innovative digital technologies as storytelling tools. Work with communications director to critique photography and video, advise on pictorial matters, discuss brand-related concerns, and plan for short- and long-term assignments.
* Take initiative to research and evaluate video and photo trends, video software and multimedia tools; track time and materials for billings, when applicable; and perform other duties as assigned.

Shoots and edits content for on-air and digital
Produces reports for all platforms
Ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
Builds and calendars digital campaigns to promote local shows and specials.
Writes stories for the web and other digital platforms
Performs other duties as assigned
Finds new ways to use Social Media and our website to engage with viewers
Requirements & Skills:
Degree in journalism; daily newspaper or news site experience required; live, working web samples and/or print pages preferred
Proficiency in Associated Press style, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Basic HTML preferred
CSS, Flash and other relevant technology skills is a plus
Maintain positive work environment through active team participation and cooperation with co-workers in all departments
Responds positively to feedback
