Safety • Responsibilities in this area are to comply with safety rules and to report any unsafe conditions to the facility supervisor immediately. • Make sure all power and air to the machine is off before performing ANY repairs. • Able to execute daily and weekly Preventative Maintenance (PM). • Never operate the machine without all doors and guards in place. • Keep floor around machine and holding tanks clean and clear of any debris especially gel. B. Quality 1. Responsibilities in this area include ensuring: • The maximum amount of air is removed from the bag without risking seal integrity. • The consistency or viscosity of gel is present. • Weak or uncompleted seals are rejected and corrected. • Pin holes or burned seals are rejected and corrected. • Film has good print quality and is of the correct thickness. • Check the units produced from the machine at the weigh station to ensure they are both the proper weights and dimension EVERY 20 MINUTES. Document this by completing the 'Gel Production Quality Control Report.' • Oversee packers to ensure the proper number of units is packed in each case. • The packer should place units in the case label up in a manner where they are not at risk of tearing on the box/partition and then flatten each pack in the case. • Oversee Stackers to ensure the correct palletizing pattern is be used and shippers are properly taped closed. C. Productivity 1. Responsibilities in this area include: • Each operator is considered the team leader of their machine. They are to be aware of the level of efficiency and quality of their packers' output to ensure that it is at the expectations of Pelton Shepherd Industries. • Maintain daily production standards and thoroughly complete production reports as required. • Standard operating procedures are being followed throughout his or her team. • Keep the shift and/or facility supervisor or (machine technician) if applicable, informed of any problems or potential problems regarding machinery, inventory, and/or personnel. D. Machine and Area Responsibilities • The machine should be kept in good working order at all times (correct air pressure, fresh Teflon tape, sharp knives, etc.) • Report any major problems to the shift and/or facility supervisor. • Report low inventory items (i.e., film, machine parts) to shift and/or facility supervisor. • Ensure the machines are cleaned thoroughly at the end of EACH shift. • Ensure packers clean area from the conveyor back to pallet stacking area. • Put all film away at the end of the shift. • Pay's attention to cleaning and lubrication as part of performing daily and weekly Preventive Maintenance. E. Complete reports and assignments requested by the shift and/or facility supervisor. Required Skills/Abilities • Ability to follow directions and work well in a team. • Ability to read English to interpret and translate standard operating procedures. • Thorough understanding of or the ability to quickly learn production equipment. • Understanding of and the ability to abide by applicable state safety and environmental regulations. Requirements • Basic math and counting skills, must 'Pass' word math test by reading questions out loud to show reading and comprehension ability as well as showing methods for solving word problems. • Tooling identification • Ability to think outside the box and be aware. For example, can see possible issues that could be coming from watching current flow of overall production process. • Ability to communicate effectively with people. • Shows willingness to be flexible and take on assignments that may be outside job requirements. • The candidate should be proficient with machine operator, PM's and most of trouble shooting within 90 days.
