General Purpose:
To provide direct care, guidance and instruction to the children of the MAOF Child Care and Development Centers. To instruct children in activities designed to promote social, physical and intellectual growth stimulates learning, according to the developmental stages of the children.
Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Site Supervisor, assumes responsibilities for instructing and supervising groups of children, preparing and following lesson plans, assessing, and documenting children?s development, and supervising teacher?s assistant and volunteer staff assigned.
Provide children with a learning environment and experiences which will help them develop socially, intellectually, physically and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development.
Integrate the educational aspects of the program in the daily schedule of activities.
Following the curriculum prepares lesson plans and materials according to the general program, outline or theme, and in accordance with contractual guidelines and prescribed procedures. Lessons should include but not limited to activity areas of dramatic play, science, math, art, music, language, nutrition, fine and gross motor.
Maintains ongoing observations, progress reports, and developmental status of each child.
Conducts daily inspection of indoor and outdoor facilities. Removes, hazardous debris, unsafe equipment and materials.
Supervises children activities indoor and outdoor to ensure their safety.
Implements safety rules and supervise children?s activities in order to ensure their safety.
Organize and implement a positive and comfortable routine within the room by establishing realistic limits for the children, by effectively using time, providing for active and quiet activities, and by planning orderly transitions from on activity to another.
Plans and conducts classroom activities that encourage good health habits appropriate to the child. Involve parents in the educational activities of the program.
Selects and uses materials and equipment that stimulates the children.
Prepares and maintains daily attendance records and prepares other reports and documentation as required.
Conducts initial, interim, and final assessments of children?s development, and documents Individual Education Plans for each child.
Conducts parent conferences on a scheduled basis for the purpose of apprising the parents of the needs and progress of the child. Provides documentation on the results for such meetings and conferences.
Straightens up and maintains well-arranged orderly environments both inside and outside.
Assist in the supervision and on-the-job training and performance of assigned aides, personnel, student teachers, and volunteers and schedules activities for same.
Takes all reasonable pre-caution to ensure the safety of the children and insures that children are supervised at all times.
Becomes knowledgeable of the general health and of sickness in children and observes children for such signs on a daily basis. Documents any signs of ill health and immediately reports same to Center Supervisor.
Follow the care and supervision of the children at all times.
Records the number of children who eat each meal/meal summary.
Establish and promote productive relationships with parents, as to increase the center?s ability to help parents meet their childbearing responsibilities.
Proactive in the program effort to recruit and enroll families that qualify for the CDES programs.
Establishes safety rules that are understandable and practicable by the children and adults.
Supervises and guides classroom staff in conducting family style meals and snacks with children. Sits at table, encourages and, as necessary, assists children in serving themselves. Initiates and participates in conversations, discusses colors, textures, nutrition of food, and how and where it grows, who grows it, other food nutrition and community information.
Attends and participates in staff meetings, conferences, workshops, in-service training, and parents meetings.
Helps each child to develop a sense of awareness, self-esteem and be able to express his/her feelings. Help each child develop pride as an individual.
Helps plan and supervise field trips.
Is responsible for the reasonable care of the equipment and supplies assigned.
Maintains clean and neat appearance in keeping with professional position and as an example to the children. Wears apron (provided by MAOF) daily. Wears appropriate clothes and shoes.
Carries out any other activities, which may be necessary for the proper implementation of MAOF Child Care and Development Programs.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
Must possess a valid Associate Teacher permit from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
3 Infant and Toddler units.
Minimum of 1 year classroom experience working with preschool children.
Must possess Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid Certificate (every year thereafter).
Skill in oral and written communication. Must be able to write clear and concise reports. Must be able to read, write and communicate.
Bilingual, English and Spanish required.
Special Requirements:
Must meet State health requirements including passing a physical examination and a Tuberculosis (TB) as a condition of employment.
Must be fingerprinted and cleared through the Justice Department. Fingerprints clearance must be active and on file with the Justice Department.
Must provide vaccination records for influenza, pertussis, and measles at the time of employment, annual requirement thereafter.
Must have a valid California driver?s license, have use of a motor vehicle and provide evidence of automobile liability insurance.

Responsibilities
Performs as an educator for assigned children in the classroom throughout the child's enrollment in the program. Supports primary care-giving in meeting the personal care of children, including safety and visual supervision.

Qualifications
H.S. Diploma or national equivalent. Must possess and maintain a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit. Must meet ongoing educational requirements to qualify for child development permit/CDA requirements.
Experience teaching in a preschool or infant/toddler classroom setting, which includes 50 days of 3+ hours per day within 2 year period.
Training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable and supportive relationships with very young children; must develop knowledge of infant and toddler development, safety issues in infant and toddler child care settings (i.e., reducing the risk of SIDS).
Must possess and maintain current pediatric (infant/toddler) CPR and first aid certificate as well as a food handler's certificate.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Classroom Teacher, the Teacher Aide provides support to a Child Development classroom by assisting with the preparation and delivery of instructional activities, observing developmental indicators, redirecting behavior, and addressing the health and safety of the children. The CDP Teacher Assistant is also responsible for assuring compliance with the codes of all State and local governing contracting agencies; BGCGSD policies and Guidelines, and works collegially with other staff members of the CDP.

FUNCTIONS WITH CORRESPONDING TASKS
1. CLASSROOM AIDE
Assist classroom staff in all classroom activities, field trips and outdoor activates including lesson plans.
Assist with classroom assessments and observations and portfolios.
Assists with preparing the classroom for ECERS twice a year.
Assist in developing materials and providing activities related to the cultural background of the children and families served.
Supervise children indoors and outdoors at all times.
Helps supervise at mealtime, eating with the children to encourage good nutrition and proper social skills.
Help keep the classroom and its contents clean and orderly.
Assists the teacher in any aspect of the program as the need arises.
Serves as a substitute in the absence of other assistant teachers.

QUALIFICATIONS
Six (6) units of Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Child Development (CD). (Required)
Strong written and verbal interpersonal communication skills to converse diplomatically and effectively with staff, parents, and donors; innate ability to work steadily and calmly in high-pressure situations.
Proven ability to work independently, establish and revise priorities to meet shifting deadlines, and prioritize and organize workload to meet multiple deadlines.
Demonstrated knowledge of current concepts and best practices used in early childhood education; methods of observing, evaluating, and recording child behavior and development. (Required)
Demonstrated experience using computers and relevant software applications, including database management, spreadsheets, research, calendaring, and word processing
