General Description The Lead Teacher provides the complete educational experience and academic progress of children in a residential program. Provides required US Refugio shelter program reporting regarding education, life skills, vocational, and acculturation. Minimum Qualifications Education - bachelor's degree in Elementary Education Experience - 2 years' experience of teaching and/or relevant experience. Teaching English as a Second Language ESL /Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Certification Bilingual in English and Spanish State Teacher Certified in the State where employed. Must be computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Windows (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, One Note and Teams) What You'll Be Doing Supervise the teachers and ensure educational services are aligned with the children's needs and educational requirements. Provide instructional leadership, direction, and feedback to education staff. Ensure that education staff provide a safe and inclusive classroom environment of respect to ensure positive learning experience for children with diverse backgrounds. Provide direct services to a cohort of children and monitor participation to ensure adequate instruction and assistance to each child. Ensure the children are provided with an opportunity for learning advancement, independent study, special projects and pre-GED classes and college preparatory tutorials. Conducts an educational assessment of each child to determine the academic level of the child and any needs the child may have. Adapts or modifies local educational standards to develop curricula and assessments, in basic academic areas (Science, Social Studies, Math Reading Writing, Physical Education, and English as a Second Language ESL/teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages ESOL), including vocational and acculturation activities. Assists and ensures the preparation of an individualized educational plan for each child. Oversee monitoring of children's participation to ensure adequate instruction and assistance with each child. Organize, attend, and monitor education field trips. Schedule monthly educational meeting to keep education staff updated and informed of new policies and procedures., Maintains the child's educational case file and contract database in accordance with ORR policies and procedures. Provides homebound, remedial education and after-school tutoring as needed. Covers as a substitute in the absence of a teacher following the lesson plans and managing the class as needed. Supports in the wellbeing, safety and supervision of children as needed. Attend required staff meeting and training. Other duties as assigned. Cleans the Childcare Center and playground daily removing dangerous objects from the center. * Cleans bathrooms, floors, counters, etc. and documents/tracks as appropriate. * Redirects the children's behavior and ensures that proper disciplinary plan is implemented if needed. * Maintains documentation of the food program and documents as appropriate. * Monitors attendance and maintains attendance reports in accordance with licensing and funding standards. * Ensures that infants' and toddlers' soiled diapers are changed, children are dry and that soiled diapers are disposed of in a sanitary manner. * Facilitates Peace Groups as needed and documents in the database. * Assists with orientations, rosters, and tracking spreadsheets and documents. * Completes and maintains Ages and Stages Questionnaires for children as needed in accordance with Early Learning Coalition guidelines. * Assists with occasionally providing childcare for night groups as needed. * Transportation in agency vehicles to transport children, families, or supplies. * Provides advocacy for shelter participants. * Provide support to other departments as needed. Requirements Education/Training/Experience * Bachelor's degree in behavioral science preferred or two years of related experience with children. * Child Development Associate (CDA) or equivalent required. If the employee does not possess a CDA, the employee must sign up for the courses and obtain the CDA within one year of employment. * Three (3) years of related experience. Specialized or technical educational requirements: * Requires completion of Forty (40) hour Childcare training course and Five (5) hour Early Literacy training course. * Become CORE certified within 90 days of employment. Completes sixteen (16) hours of annual training related to domestic violence. * Ten (10) hours of continuing education required annually as outlined by Department of Children and Families Childcare Licensing. Certification or Licensing Requirements * Valid Florida driver's license, active vehicle insurance, and acceptable MVR required. Must have two years of driving experience. * Must be able to pass a level 2 background check. * Must successfully pass and maintain screening through childcare licensing agency and DCF, as required by law. * Must be willing and eligible to earn and maintain a Child Development Associate (CDA) (or will sign up for course within 90 days of employment and complete certification within 1 year of employment). * Certification in First Aid and CPR. (or will complete within 90 days of employment). * 10 hours of continuing education required annually related to childcare as approved through DCF. * Obtain CORE Competency certification prior to having direct contact with participants. 16 hours of training each year thereafter regarding the dynamics of domestic violence and intervention. Position Requirements Assistant Teacher Requirements: Experience in an Early Childhood Learning Center 40 hours preferred High School Diploma or Associate Degree (recommended). CPR certified and trained. Complete Background Check. Previous experience in a preschool. A passion for working with babies and toddlers. Patient, nurturing and thoughtful. Good communication skills. Must be open to ongoing professional development Physical RequirementsMust be able to lift a minimum of 35 pounds and do the position as physically required, lifting children who may need comforting or may not feel well, etc. Teachers must be able to stand on the playground for 20-30 minutes, supervising children. An Assistant Teacher is responsible for supporting an Amazing Explorers Academy Lead Teacher with every aspect of managing and supervising a class of children. This includes creating an environment of learning that promotes the social, physical and intellectual growth of children, regardless of their age, background, or abilities. He or she must be knowledgeable in developmentally appropriate practices and will assist teachers in maintaining safety and order among all children in their room at any given time, thus ensuring activities and the curriculum are adhered to as required by the Director. The Assistant Teacher must also be polite and responsive to the families of the students and be able to collaborate with other Assistant and Lead Teachers, as required, in order to foster the overall goals of Amazing Explorers Academy. JOB DUTIES, TASKS, AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Follows daily schedule and implements curriculum which includes communicating and interpreting both verbally and in writing in the English language Maintains accurate child observation records and anecdotal notes for use during parent/teacher conferences to be held at minimum twice a year Conducts formal and informal assessments periodically to ensure children are on track developmentally Interacts with the children and models socially appropriate behavior in the classroom and on the playground. This may require frequent standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, and lifting to engage with the children Communicates effectively and efficiently with families in a polite and respectful manner Follows all safety and security policies and procedures and documents any accidents/incidents accordingly Follows mandated reporting guidelines as established by the state Supervises all children, regardless of home classroom, maintaining a secure and safe environment for children to play and learn Maintains proper daily attendance records utilizing digital technology in the classroom including the AEA mobile APP, sending messages and updates to families throughout the school day Maintains a safe and healthy environment adhering to all company procedures related to injuries and accidents and communicate any potential hazards to the Director Prepares a safe, warm environment that is always orderly and clean Promotes only positive interactions among teachers and children, treating everyone with respect and dignity by recognizing and considering the unique background of each person, including children with disabilities, special talents, interest, style or pace of learning, etc. Plans curriculum and materials needed for the week prior to starting any program Regularly opens and closes the assigned classroom in the morning and evening Cleans the classroom by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning the restroom, sanitizing toys and surfaces, and disposing of trash Helps with meal and snack preparation, feeding children, and modeling table manners by sitting with the children at family style meals. Participates in accreditation goals and performs the associated classroom requirements to meet those goals, if applicable. Maybe required to take additional training classes or courses as required by Amazing Explorers Academy or any state or regulatory agency MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS Minimum 18 years old Must meet state licensing requirements for education including maintaining in-service hours as required by state licensing agencies or accrediting bodies Must meet all standards and requirements relating to education and experience as set by the state and accreditation agent Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent Prefer experience in a licensed or accredited child care center Prefer Staff Credential or degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, but not required Prefer CPR and First Aid certification, but not required Must be able to communicate, both verbally and in writing, in the English language.

The Assistant Teacher will work under the direction of the Lead Teacher to help implement curriculum, which includes lesson planning and child assessment. The Assistant Teacher will help plan and implement activities designed to promote the social, physical, and intellectual growth of the children under her/his care. The Assistant Teacher will also be responsible for communicating with parents and keeping them informed of their child's progress on a daily basis.
