Preparing the daily pastry needs for our catered events. This individual must be a self-starter and likes to work independently yet enjoys being a part of a bigger team. This position requires flexible hours, with some weekend work possible.
Responsibilities:
Assist in receiving deliveries of food
Assist in the rotation of stocked items in coolers, dry storage, and freezers
Keep kitchen area clean and presentable at all times
Remain in a proper CLEAN uniform the entire shift
Assist in keeping a list of items needed for stock and prep
Prepare all food items listed on prep lists and all menus in the allotted time given by chef
Comply with all food and safety regulations
Familiarity and compliance with all food handling requirements such as gluten-free, vegan, etc.…
Assist in cleaning all kitchen areas before the close of day or shift.
On occasion, may be asked to fill in a spot when short-staffed at events.
Ability to follow the lead and direction of other chefs.
Always arrive at work prepared for your shift.
Specifications:

Work Environment
The kitchen will be busy and fast-paced, must be able to move quickly with every move you make. You will be on your feet for long periods of time, but lunch and proper breaks are provided daily. This is a semi-temperature-controlled environment but may be hotter or colder depending on any extreme temperatures outside. Heavy items will be lifted daily, and team lifting is mandatory. Please make sure you have the physicality to thrive in this environment.

Ideal Candidate Experience
● Must be able to correctly and safely use standard kitchen equipment. Chefs' knives; Convection ovens; Rotating rack ovens; Meat and cheese slicing machines, steamers, mandolins, grills and broilers.
● Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for food preparation.
● Ability to coordinate work with and follow the direction of the chef, or cook.
● Use of food cost control methods.
● Possess ServSafe certification or City/State Food Handler Card
Key Accountabilities
● Season and cook food according to recipes and experience.
● Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, taking temperatures. Adjust seasoning to customer tastes.
● Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes, using various kitchen utensils and equipment.
● Portion, arrange, and garnish food, and serve food to patrons.
● Regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters.
● Substitute for or assist other cooks during emergencies or rush periods.
● Follow all safety rules and actively prevent accidents.
● Commitment to the service values and ethics of the client company.
● Must comply with all ServSafe and HACCP programs and principles.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
● Work up to 8 hours a day on your feet, excluding breaks.
● Must be able to lift a minimum of 25lbs.
● Come to work properly dressed according to the dress code.
● Employee must be able to work under pressure and time deadlines during peak periods.
● Job requires delivery of hot and cold food to on campus sites using carts and vans.
