Essential Functions Instructs, advises and mentors employees, technicians and journeymen in the operation and maintenance of the campus plumbing, steam, mechanical systems, H.V.A.C. systems and their related components including but not limited to pneumatic, electronic controls, electro-mechanical controls, cooling towers, pumps, and controlled devices. Responds to, inspects, tests, troubleshoots, repairs and initiates repairs for all plumbing, steam, sanitary systems, mechanical systems, cooling towers, pumps including but not limited to pneumatic and self-contain valves in context with building HVAC, hydronic systems, and their related control devices. This requires using microprocessor and diagnostic equipment. Interacts with contractors relating to the operation, maintenance, and repair of various systems on campus. Performs preventive maintenance services. Utilizes computer programs that operate, maintain, calibrate, and adjust building HVAC systems. Assists Engineering staff in drawing review, inspection and troubleshooting as part of the acceptance of new equipment, new buildings, upgrades and equipment replacement. Drive a motorized vehicle around campus to residential buildings. Installs, repairs, alters, and maintains hot and cold water lines, steam lines, deionized water systems, sprinkler systems, glass piping, sewer pipes (cast iron, plastic, ceramic), pumps, traps, valves, radiators, toilets, sinks, showers, and other fixtures, including all their associated fittings; estimates labor and materials needed to do the work. Cuts and threads pipe, using stocks and dies, power threading machines, wrenches, power saws, safety equipment, and other related tools. Uses oxyacetylene torches and/or welding equipment to braze coils and pipes. Drill or cut holes through floors, walls, and ceilings; perform asbestos abatement in performance of work assignments. Performs related duties such as erecting scaffolding, rigging, and/or ladders; laying out drop clothes; fabricating miscellaneous metal products; sharpening and tempering various tools; cleaning tools and equipment; preparing work reports; and training other employees on the job. Linde Gas & Equipment Inc. Technologist III Linde Gas & Equipment Inc. is seeking a responsible worker to join our team! The Technologist III/Mechanical Technician is responsible for the overall maintenance of mechanical equipment and mechanical system, as well as some fabrication at the Niagara Falls Service Center, NY. This is a challenging and rewarding job that requires sound technical abilities in compressors maintenance, and other rotation equipment, fabrication of manifolds and small equipment and systems with training provided in site-specific applications. The Technologist III/Mechanical Technician must demonstrate initiative in handling issues, be self-motivated and dependable. This individual works with minimal supervision during field trips and must demonstrate initiative and good communication skill to address challenges. The Technologist III/Mechanical Technician is available for afterhours calls from plant operations personnel and will need to provide customer support outside of normal working hours. The Technologist III/Mechanical Technician operates all aspects of the Linde Acetylene and high-pressure plants, from corrective and preventive maintenance standpoint. They maintain compressors, pumps, valves, motors, and related equipment. This individual should have expertise to install, start-up, operate, and shut down acetylene supply systems located at customer sites typically within a three-to-five-hour drive from the home location and occasionally this position will travel to locations outside the assigned area to support other plants and/or for training. This position will report to Engineering Project Manager and be based in Niagara Falls, NY. Primary Responsibilities: Maintain all Safety, Quality, and Compliance activities at each customer installation performing site inspections or site maintenances. Installation, start up, decommissioning of installation High pressure and Acetylene supply systems (compressors, purifiers, filling manifold, etc.) Coordinates and performs routine preventive and corrective maintenance and adjustments on a variety of process equipment including centrifugal and reciprocating compressors Monitoring the availability of parts and replenishing supplies as well as physical inventory control. Troubleshooting mechanical malfunctions and breakdowns, as well as performing repairs Oversees location Contractor Safety Program Oversees location's Process Safety Mechanical Integrity Program Assists in the development and review of standard operating procedures Utilizes hand and portable power tools and follows safe working practices through all steps of equipment repair and maintenance May provide advice to management regarding equipment life and usage and in researching new equipment purchases Ensures operations technicians understand and follow safe working practices through all steps of equipment repair and maintenance Coordinates and oversees the movement of materials and equipment as required Other duties as defined Salary Range: $27.00 - $35.00, depending on experience.
