Summer Help
Plumber Job In Delaware
Field Work
You will be using two (2) pieces of equipment in the field to complete this project. DSWA staff will train you to use this equipment. See Attachment B for any special instructions (including information such as priority order of wells/areas to be inspected and areas to avoid).
First, at each individual wellhead you will use Trimble surveying equipment to obtain the current GPS coordinates of the wellhead. You will need to record the GPS coordinates in two different units (you can convert from one set of units to the other on the computer if you do not record both directly in the field). The first unit needed is Northings & Eastings. This is basically an X (Easting) and Y (Northing) coordinate system that is used to update our facility maps in AutoCAD. The second unit needed is Decimal Degrees to five (5) decimal places. These decimal degrees are the required units for reporting under our Title V Air Permits.
(While you are out in the field, we will also have you verify and record GPS coordinates for non-well penetrations. Penetrations are any objects that are partially above ground and partially buried at least 2 feet below ground (i.e. - they penetrate through the ground to the trash below). There may be some penetrations shown on the map we provide to you that do not exist in the field. Please note this so that we can confirm and remove them from our maps. There also may be some penetrations you find in the field that are not shown on the map. Please record the coordinates, note any label on the penetration, and take a photo. If you are not sure whether something is a penetration, just record it and we can confirm later and add them to our maps.)
Second, at each individual wellhead you will use a push camera to visually inspect the inside of the vertical wells only. You will be able to record the camera output for later review should you need to double check anything. In addition to the video feed, the push camera will also measure the number of feet it is extended. Using this feature, you will be able to measure the depth from the top of the PVC pipe to the follow points:
transition from solid pipe to perforated pipe
full depth of the well (or as far down as you are capable of measuring)
liquid surface (if liquid is present in the well)
location of any elbows, bends, breaks, or any other points of note (if any are present in the well)
**Note on field safety** Whenever you are on the landfill, you must be in compliance with DSWA s Safety Policy. This includes wearing steel-toe boots, a high-visibility shirt or vest, and a personal gas meter at all times when on the landfill. You may also need to wear a hard hat, safety glasses/sunglasses, and/or hearing protection depending on the area you are working in. DSWA will supply these safety items. Always watch your step as the ground on the landfill can be very uneven. It is unlikely that your personal gas meter will alarm, but if for some reason it does you should walk away from the area and call one of our landfill gas staff to meet you.
Office Work
You will be performing work in the office as well, primarily using Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD, and Propeller to complete the final deliverables (see next section). DSWA staff will train you on these softwares if you are not already familiar with them.
You will need to sort through DSWA historical records to find some of the information being included in the spreadsheets you are creating. Some of these records may be electronic (PDFs, Excel spreadsheets, AutoCAD files) and some may be in hard copy. Some historical records may be incomplete. DSWA staff will direct you to the available historical records.
Final Deliverables
There will be three (3) final deliverables for each facility.
The primary final deliverable is an Excel spreadsheet (one for each facility) which includes the following information for each wellhead:
Wellhead ID (GEM and Map)
Phase/Area/Cell where it is located
Whether it is a Vertical or Horizontal well
Date installed (if known)
Date connected to the LFG system (if known)
Date Commissioned (if known)
Date Redrilled (CIL only - list all redrill dates if redrilled multiple times)
Status of well (never commissioned, active, in the decommissioning process, approved for final decommissioning)
Coordinates of each wellhead (Northings & Eastings, and Decimal Degrees to 5 decimal places)
Wellhead height (ft) above ground (to top of PVC pipe)
Direct measurements for vertical wells, estimated measurements for horizontal wells:
Length (ft) of solid pipe (including above ground PVC)
Length (ft) of perforated pipe (or as much as you can measure before an obstruction)
Total depth (ft) of well (solid pipe + perforated pipe)
Depth (ft) at which an elbow/bend/break is encountered (may be multiple)
Depth (ft) at which liquid is encountered
Length (ft) of open perforated pipe (distance between the start of perforations and the depth of liquid, if any)
Highlight any wellheads that have zero (0) open perforated pipe
If time permits, include similar information as available for wells that have already been fully decommissioned (this would fully be from historical records as available). This decommissioned well information should be kept in a separate worksheet from the active wells.
The second final deliverable is updated AutoCAD maps. Wellhead locations should be updated to reflect the current GPS coordinates as identified in the field, and on the page view the labels should be easily readable. Any other penetrations discovered or that are confirmed to no longer exist should be updated on the map as well (any that no longer exist should be moved to a layer called Abandoned or similar - we want to keep a record that it existed at some point). There are two AutoCAD files to update for each facility - the LFG System Master Map, and the Surface Emission Monitoring (SEM) Map.
The third final deliverable is updated well locations in the online Propeller software. You may complete this directly or you may be instructed to provide a list of coordinates to another DSWA employee to be updated.
