Position Summary:
Under general supervision, performs diagnostic, service, and installation of plumbing in residential and light-commercial environments. Holds plumbing and/or gas license as required by governmental regulations. Ensures that work is performed in accordance with relevant codes. Assembles, installs, or repairs pipes, fittings, or fixtures of heating, water, or drainage systems in accordance to specifications and plumbing codes. Communicates with customer to answer questions, resolves problems, and ensures complete customer satisfaction. Promotes products and services to customer. Works under the direction of the Field Supervisor or General Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyzes, diagnoses, and resolves customer problems in a courteous, professional, timely, and accurate manner. Identifies potential problems to prevent premature and unexpected breakdowns or callbacks.
Maintains and repairs plumbing systems carrying water, steam, chemicals and fuel in heating, cooling, lubricating and other process piping systems by replacing defective washers, replacing or mending broken pipes, or opening clogged drains. Repairs or replaces plumbing fixtures; test joints and pipe systems for leaks, open clogged drains, measure, cut, thread, bend, ream and install pipe and pipe fittings. Inspects high pressure, air, steam, water and gas systems to ascertain malfunctions.
Assembles pipe sections, tubing, or fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing, or welding equipment. Weld small pipes or special piping, using specialized techniques, equipment, or materials, such as computer-assisted welding or microchip fabrication.
Locates and marks the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, or fixtures in structures, using measuring instruments such as rulers or levels, and cuts openings
Installs pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances such as dishwashers or water heaters, or fixtures such as sinks or toilets, using hand or power tools. Anchors steel supports from ceiling joists to hold pipes in place. Cuts openings in structures to accommodate pipes or pipe fittings, using hand or power tools.
Measures, cuts, threads, or bends pipe to required angle, using hand or power tools or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, or pipe-bending machine
Installs underground storm, sanitary, or water piping systems, extending piping as needed to connect fixtures and plumbing
Reviews blueprints, building codes, or specifications to determine work details or procedures. Interprets drawings and specifications to determine layout requirements. Studies building plans and inspect structures to assess material and equipment needs, to establish the sequence of pipe installations, and to plan installation around obstructions such as electrical wiring.
Fills pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks
Directs helpers engaged in pipe cutting, preassembly, or installation of plumbing systems or components
Ensures company property, vehicles, and tools are being used, maintained and properly accounted for
Maintains current plumbing and/or gas license in accordance with governmental regulations
Follows standard procedures and process, ensures that the company vehicle is properly stocked, returns defective warranty parts to branch, and orders/replenishes vehicle stock as needed
Represents the company professionally, honestly, and ethically in all business matters and activities
Performs similar/other duties as needed or assigned

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

Four years' experience in plumbing repair, maintenance, and installation in addition to on-the-job training
Plumbing and/or gas license as required by local, state, provincial, or national governmental regulations
EPA and safety certifications required
Current knowledge of and continuing education in national, state, and local plumbing code regulations
Proficient mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate all necessary tools and equipment to perform various plumbing projects
Knowledge of machines and tools used in the construction or repair of houses, buildings and other structures. This knowledge includes machine and tools design, uses, repairs, and maintenance.

About the Work
The Plumber and Steamfitter is responsible for developing, maintaining and securing the Museum's buildings and grounds so as to support its collections, education, and research functions.
The Plumber and Steamfitter will:
Support administrative operations by performing maintenance and preventive maintenance on Plumbing and HVAC systems and related equipment, and in other areas as assigned/needed, ensuring minimum disruption of normal operations and contributing to a clean and safe work environment.
Maintain continuous, 24-hour operation of the buildings located on the Museum's campus by providing troubleshooting and maintenance skills for a wide variety of plumbing systems and equipment with “On Call” responsibilities for first response to problems or emergencies that occur after normal business hours that could disrupt or endanger the Museum's operation, patrons, staff, or the art collections.
When necessary, acts as Museum's on-site coordinator with contractors to correct problems and make emergency repairs after normal working hours.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of corrective maintenance, installation, repair, and preventive maintenance related to plumbing/steam-fitting and related equipment and systems.
Must have a strong mechanical background.
Demonstrated skilled in use of power and hand tools necessary to perform tasks and repairs as needed.

Adjust, repair, or replace leaky joints, faucets, and other outlets as necessary to maintain proper and efficient operation of all related plumbing and steam fitting systems including, but not limited to, hot water systems, chilled water systems, potable water systems, compressed and vacuum air systems, valves, inert and natural gas systems, and other associated systems, equipment and components.
Install and repair domestic, industrial, and commercial hot water heaters, hot water storage tanks and plumbing fixtures, equipment, and components, including commodes, urinals, kitchen and utility sinks, water fountains, frost-proof hydrants, showers, bathtubs, lavatories, shower pans, garbage disposals, dishwashers, fan and air handler coils, valves, pumps, and associated equipment and components.
Install or replace and connect water, air, natural gas, sewage, and water/storm fixtures such as sewage lines, water closets, lavatories, showers, sinks, gas heaters, stoves, air compressor equipment, shop hydraulic vehicle lifts, cooling towers, grease traps, garbage disposals, dishwashers, floor drains, condensate and drip pans, circulation systems for heating and cooling systems, and associated equipment and components.
May maintain Natural Gas Distribution Systems in accordance with 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 191 and 192, Technical Manual (TM) 5-652, TM 5-653, and TM 5-654.
May always maintain gas leak detection equipment in good operating condition and respond to emergency odor complaint calls with the Fire Department or as required by proper notification to ensure the safety of the public.
May inspect, grease, and repair the critical valves semi-annually in accordance with 49 CFR and Pipeline Safety Regulations 192.745 and 192.747.
May perform an annual inspection of all gas lines located on the Installation. The Contractor shall be responsible for making the necessary repairs determined by the class in accordance with 49 CFR 191 and 192.
Operate, clean, and maintain required tools and special equipment.
Perform scheduled maintenance on plumbing systems and fixtures.
Apply all code requirements during installations, repairs, and maintenance.
Ensure all requirements are met as specified by the manufacturer of systems and fixtures.
Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance are properly sized, aligned, supported, and graded.
Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance meet environmental protection requirements.
Maintain preventive maintenance and repair records.
Read and understand drawings, work plans and maps.
Qualifications:
Minimum 8 years of experience
Must be able to use hand tools, power tools and appliances required for the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing fixtures and pipes and gas utility systems.
Must be able to follow maintenance instructions, service and diagnose systems, and complete repairs.
Must have knowledge of plumbing codes and regulations.
Physical Requirements:
