We are seeking a highly skilled and certified Turbine Powered UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) Pilot to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience operating turbine-powered drones in both controlled and complex environments. As a UAV Pilot, you will be responsible for ensuring safe and efficient operation of UAV systems, performing pre-flight and post-flight inspections, and maintaining communication with the control team during missions.
Responsibilities
Operate Group 3 turbine-powered UAVs in various environments for various mission-specific tasks.
Conduct pre-flight inspections, ensuring all systems are fully functional, and troubleshooting any technical issues that may arise before, during, or after flight.
Ensure compliance with relevant aviation regulations, safety procedures, and company policies.
Monitor real-time flight data, ensuring the UAV remains within the designated flight parameters and making necessary adjustments when required.
Collaborate with ground control teams and assist in mission planning, execution, and post-flight debriefing.
Maintain accurate flight logs and reports, including details on flight duration, fuel consumption, and any operational anomalies.
Manage and operate UAV-related equipment, including communication systems and payloads.
Ensure all required certifications and licenses are up to date and adhere to relevant aviation and UAV industry standards.
Fly and operate smaller Group 1 and Group 2 fixed-wing UAVs and rotor-wing aircraft, ensuring smooth and safe execution of missions across a variety of aircraft types.
OPERATING HOURS AND EXPECTATIONS:
When not traveling, this position operates on a standard 8 hour schedule Monday - Friday with expectations of reporting onsite at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD.
TRAVEL:
The position requires CONUS and OCONUS travel to include rotational deployments of up to six months.
Travel CONUS and OCONUS (to possible conflict areas) on short notice to disseminate relevant threat information.
Qualifications
CLEARANCE:
Active Secret clearance at the time of application with ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance.
EDUCATION:
MA/MS degree with three (3) yrs experience.
BA/BS with four (4) yrs experience.
AA/AS with five (5) years of experience.
High school diploma or equivalent with seven (7) years of experience.
CERTIFICATION(S):
Must possess or be able to obtain a Certified FAA UAS Pilot License (FAA Part 107).
Turbine UAV Specific Training: Completion of specialized turbine UAV pilot training programs or certification courses.
Aviation Medical Certificate: A valid medical certificate, preferably FAA Class 2 or equivalent.
Radio Communication License: Must hold a valid radio operator's license (if applicable).
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Flight Logs: Must be able to provide detailed flight logs from previous UAV operations, demonstrating experience and proficiency in piloting turbine-powered and other UAV systems.
Relevant UAV Training: Completion of UAV flight training that includes turbine-powered systems or similar high-performance UAV platforms.
Radio Communication License: Must hold a valid radio operator's license (if applicable).
Safety Training: Current knowledge and experience with UAV safety protocols and emergency procedures.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Previous MQ-9 Launch and Recovery pilot qualification preferred.

Minimum of 100 hours in high or medium altitude/long endurance UAV family.
Able to demonstrate effective oral and written communications skills.

• Completes pre-flight before every flight verifying the aircraft is in an airworthy condition by sign off of Daily Flight Log. Pilots will perform a complete walk around of the aircraft prior to entering the cockpit for flight and upon completion of each flight.

**Summary**
The Chief Pilot position is a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) required position, per 14 Code of Federal Regulations(CFR) 119.69, for which the certificate holder, The Milton S. Hershey Medical center is required to have in place to maintain operations. The positions duties have oversight from both the FAA and Penn State Health. The Chief Pilot retains full flight approval authority in the absence of the Director of Flight Operations and is responsible for all duties listed below. **Responsibilities**
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES-** The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 100%. Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
**1) The Chief Pilot reports to the Director of Flight Operations and is responsible for:**

- Providing Operational Control for all flight operations

- Ensuring compliance with provisions of 49 CFR and Life Lion policy, in respect to the initial and recurrent training requirements of the Life Lion Will-NOT Carry Hazardous Materials program.

**2) The Pilot in Command is responsible for:**
- All ground and flight operations involving the aircraft in which assigned. The Pilot in Command is the final authority for the operation of their assigned aircraft.
- Ensuring appropriate levels of Operational Control
- Ensuring currency of required pilot and medical certificates.
- Arriving for duty as assigned with at least 10 hours of uninterrupted rest, per applicable CFRs.
- Completion of Shift Change Briefings
- Completion of the Life Lion Preflight Risk Analysis Form prior to every flight
- Completion of appropriate VFR and IFR flight planning, including aircraft performance planning and, for VFR flights, the identification and documentation of the highest enroute obstacle
- Completion of required Weight and Balance documentation
- The recording of all flight activity as required in the company aircraft logbook
- Maintaining his/her current Pilot Duty Time Log
- Completion of thorough pre and post flight inspections for every flight.
- Tracking assigned aircraft maintenance items, such as airframe/engine hours, cycles, days between inspections, etc., as required by the Director of Maintenance
- Notification/Coordination with the on-duty Aviation Maintenance Technician, Lead Maintenance Technician, or Director of Maintenance for any pending maintenance requirements.
- Maintaining current operational awareness to include, but not limited to, designated "Call Status", actual and forecast aviation weather, pending aircraft maintenance and inspection requirements, assigned Medical Personnel status, and the updating of management personnel as appropriate.
- Notification of the Director of Flight Operations of any Operational Control Issues, or pilot scheduling issues.
- Thorough knowledge of the entire contents of the applicable Rotorcraft Flight Manual (RFM), General Operations Manual (GOM), Operations Specifications, Post Accident Incident Plan (PAIP), and all CFRs pertaining to flight operations.
- Performing his/her duties in a professional and courteous manner; this includes his/her interactions with customers, co-workers, Life Lion/Hershey Medical Center/Penn State Health management, and the general public.
- Maintaining a work and training schedule as set forth by Life Lion management; The PIC should be prepared to occasionally serve extra duty shifts, when called upon, due to the absence of other pilots during vacations, sick or military leave, or when short-staffed.
- Attending Life Lion, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, or Penn State Health meetings as required.
- Maintaining the cleanliness of his/her assigned aircraft; to include the exterior (washing) and interior; the medical cabin should be cleaned and maintained by Medical Personnel, but the PIC will ensure completion.
**3) The Check Airman/Instructor Pilot is responsible for:**
- Conducting aviation training and evaluations as assigned and qualified for in accordance with the Life Lion Approved Training Program.
- Ensuring standardized pilot training/procedures are adhered to in accordance with the Life Lion Approved Training Program.
- Conducting classroom instruction as required.
- Submitting required reports as directed.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):**
+ Commercial Instrument Certificate with rotorcraft helicopter rating, minimum 3000 hours of PIC flight time in helicopters and three
+ (3) years effective PIC experience in a Part 135 operation.
