With academics that are mainly designed to develop critical thinking skills, traditional and interdisciplinary degree programs, and numerous opportunities to travel abroad, Piedmont College offers an academically and culturally stimulating education. Located in Demorest, Georgia with a second campus in Athens, Piedmont is a small, liberal arts college. With more than 100 years of history behind it, Piedmont is also well-established and respected. Piedmont offers bachelor's degrees in the liberal arts and sciences. Professional degree programs in such fields as Business, Nursing and Education are also available at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition to these standard majors, Piedmont also has interdisciplinary programs of study with students combining different subject areas to make their own major. Regardless of your major, you will be required to think critically both in and out of class. In fact, Piedmont has its own website with ideas for critical thinking projects as they relate to environmental, community issues, and other themes. Students at Piedmont may also benefit from numerous travel abroad opportunities. In addition to semester-long study abroad programs, Piedmont also sponsors shorter ones. Student life encourages the small student body to get to know one another and participate in the more than 35 student organizations and performing arts opportunities. The admissions department evaluates students based on academic record, SAT or ACT scores, recommendation letters and the personal essay. In addition to standard scholarships, loans and grants, Piedmont also awards a “Teach Grant” for those who plan on teaching in the public schools.
