**The Opportunity** Responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors by performing venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). You will report to the Assistant Center Manager **The Role** + In compliance with SOPs perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, donor monitoring and donor disconnect. + In compliance with SOPs and Food & Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines, performs venipuncture on donors to begin pheresis process. + Evaluates vein performance of the donor to identify possible problems; makes necessary corrections in order to expedite donation time and ensure product quality and donor safety. Ensures donation process is efficient and makes adjustments when necessary to make the process a positive experience for the donor. + May educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma. Explains the screening process, the health screening tests performed, the appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition and any other information pertinent to the donor. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Greet participants and provide instructions to complete the screening process as necessary. Obtain measurement of height utilizing stadiometer; measurement of weight utilizing a scale. Assessment of resting blood pressure using a manual blood pressure cuff. Perform a finger stick to obtain blood and operate the Cholestech LDX/Cardiocheck equipment with accuracy and limited equipment waste or error. Assessment of lipid panel and glucose values resulting from Cholestech LDX/Cardiocheck testing. Ability to properly perform venipuncture blood draws within two attempts when required. Accurately record participant screening data either on paper or in electronic tablet. Perform basic data entry into database program utilizing an electronic tablet. Assist in troubleshooting of screening issues as needed. Assist in setting up and breakdown biometric screening equipment. Assist in transport of equipment to and from testing location and office which may require using stairs and/or flights of stairs. Job Description Essential Functions Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. Performs phlebotomy and ensures accurate collection of requested tests from patient through venipuncture, fingerstick or heelstick. Maintains positive patient identification during specimen collection. Communicates to nursing personnel or physician office relative or discrepant patient identification, fasting requirements or other related factors regarding collection. Communicates to Nursing when in house patients refuse blood draws. Will use Hospital resources when language barriers exist. Reviews all requisitions for missing information. Follows up with facility or provider if unable to obtain all information for test performance. Checks appropriate collection, sorting and storage areas in the facilities for specimens to ensure specimens are not missed, and may transport/distribute these specimens to the laboratory as needed. Monitors information in Collection List and Unreceived Specimen Report. Completes Collection List with accurate time of collection and phlebotomist code. Cleans and stocks work area and assists with maintenance of supplies. Follows all safety and Laboratory Dress code policies Performs other lab related duties as assigned by supervisory personnel. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Education: High School Diploma or equivalent AND Experience: 1-3 years' prior experience preferred. Certain laboratory locations may require phlebotomy training that includes a minimum of 100 hours rotation within an inpatient hospital setting/physician office. (and usually 150 successful sticks) Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements: Phlebotomy certification preferred.
