As a Pharmacy Manager in Medication Safety & Regulatory Compliance at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles California, you will lead the pharmacy department's regulatory compliance program and assist the Chief Pharmacy Officer and Pharmacist-In-Charge with quality, regulatory, and performance improvement initiatives. Employee must take initiative to continually learn and maintain clinical, operational and regulatory knowledge. What's this role all about? Ensures department compliance with state and federal laws, accreditation, professional and regulatory agency standards and licensure requirements (e.g. Joint Commission, California Department of Health Services, California State Board of Pharmacy, Drug Enforcement Agency as well as any other regulatory agencies). Maintain staff compliance with medical center policies, procedures and protocols. May conduct tracers to ensure staff compliance as regulatory issues or risks are identified. Proactively reviews external and internal safety and regulatory literature to identify risk points/best practices and conducts gap analyses of medical center. Collaborate and coordinates with departments across the medical center and all levels of staff and management to ensure medication errors and near misses are investigated and medication safety strategies and processes are implemented. Assists with development of business and operations plans for specific programs and services, including achieving department goals that are consistent with organizational goals. Facilitate collaboration and coordination for support of new concepts to enhance the operational area. Provide feedback on short and long-range unit plans and programs consistent with departmental and organizational goals. Identifies opportunities for expanded clinical services and implements new programs, processes and services. Maintain knowledge of performance-improvement methodology and tools, including plan-do-study-act (PDSA), root cause analysis and action (RCA squared), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), cause-and-effect diagramming, process-flow mapping and methods for monitoring projects and measuring the progress of performance-improvement initiatives. Promotes the culture of medication safety and a systems level (and not an individual level issue) to report and resolve medication errors to improve patient outcomes by enhancing transparency, open participation to all health care professionals, and fostering a safe environment to discuss medication near misses and errors. Provides leadership in daily operations. Assists leadership in assessing and resolving inpatient safety and regulatory issues and problems. Functions as a positive, creative and effective leader, actively participating in departmental performance improvement activities to ensure self-directed staff, applying all policies fairly and consistently. Conduct performance improvement studies to evaluate opportunities to improve clinical and distributive services. Ensures area of responsibility maintains customer focus by serving as a role model for customer relations, providing feedback and maintaining a positive work climate. Works collaboratively with nursing and physician leadership to implement department initiatives to improve the patient's experience. Ensures staff schedules and efficient work flow provide for appropriate coverage of ongoing operations. Support leadership in assessing pharmacist staffing needs for units of responsibility. Review staff schedules prior to publishing. Assists Administrator on Duty (AOD) in schedule coverages. Manages assigned staff with responsibility, work with assigned staff to identify their goals and opportunities for development of knowledge and skills. Also provide coaching and training to staff. Serves as preceptor and teacher for pharmacy students, interns, residents and technicians when they are on rotation or staffing in the Hospital or Administration rotations. May also perform all functions of a staff pharmacist and will work as a staff pharmacist in their assigned area as needed. May work from home 1 day a week or up to 3 days per pay period after training is completed. QualificationsEducation: Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy or related equivalent. Essential Functions: Prescription verification including zero tolerance of errors and that all prescriptions are verified and filled within 15 minutes or less and that call in refills are ready at the time the patient arrives. Inventory control including maintaining inventory levels to minimize excess stock and eliminate out of stock. Counseling patients in person and returning all patient telephone calls within two hours whenever possible and within one business day. Participate in regular meetings with Chief Operations Officer and provide updated reports on schedule and what is happening in the store as required. Supervise and provide training and development for new and existing staff including regular feedback, training, increasing competency and skill and insuring that the staff is focused on customers and demonstrating the Company culture of a fun and enjoyable place to work and shop. Manage day-to-day operations within the pharmacy area with team and always fully present appropriate example of customer service and attitude. Checking all prescriptions for the profitability of the product and insuring proper payment for each prescription. Stay current in skill set and complete at least 15 hours of training every year. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): Doctor of Pharmacy Degree required. Compounding experience preferred Current and valid California license to practice pharmacy. A minimum of two years of related Pharmacy experience. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Strong attention to detail. Ability to analyze complex tasks, systems, problems, and design and implement the most effective solution. Ability to work tactfully and effectively with team members, patients and their family and the public. Comprehensive knowledge of the practices, principles, methods and equipment utilized in providing Pharmaceutical services. Ability to organize and prioritize work.
