Pharmacist I- Pharmacy Department The primary purpose of this position is to procure and maintain an adequate supply of drugs and pharmaceuticals required for the treatment of a variety of conditions; communicate accurate information about drugs, their actions and usage to other health care professionals and patients; distribute drugs to patients; consult with medical staff members with regard to optimizing a patient's treatment regimen. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed by the infant (0-1 year), pediatric (2-10 years), adolescent (11-18 years), adult (19-64 years) and to geriatric (65 years plus) patient groups.
POSITION SUMMARY
Prepare intravenous admixtures using aseptic technique and the laminar air flow hood; utilizing knowledge of drug-drug, drug container, drug-temperature incompatibilities in the preparation process, and proper storage technique. This includes antibiotic medications, fluid replacement therapy but also antineoplastic therapy, total parenteral nutrition, and home IV admixtures.
Compound and dispense drugs, chemicals and pharmaceuticals to nursing units, rural hospitals, outpatients and home health patients.
Dispense controlled substances in accordance with Federal and State regulations; maintain accurate records of controlled substances including inventories.
Fill and properly label all medications used in the night cabinets at the nursing stations and Emergency Department.
Review orders for possible drug-drug, drug-lab test, drug-food interactions, appropriateness of the dosage form, dosage strength, dosage interval, duration of therapy and duplicate therapy.
Return to manufacturer all merchandise of unusable nature (i.e. expired and/or recalled products).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate or Pharm.D degree in pharmacy.
Experience: Applicants must possess full-time work experience as a licensed Pharmacist.
General Experience:
Pharmacist Graduate: None
Pharmacist I: 6 months of experience as a Licensed Pharmacist.
